ok so here are some very exciting pics of my leaf spring front first and then rear on driver's side. Anything look abnormal?

Perhaps I just have junk in between the leafs making it creek and squeak when I get in it?

Do you have spacers inbetween the leaf springs?

Yes, you have friction spacers in between your springs where they are supposed to be. This is evident in your first, second, third, sixth, and seventh images.

Your 4th image, of the forward front spring hanger, needs to be reshot from underneath in order to tell if that is normal. And one additional shot of the front spring mid span between the forward hanger and the front axle, ahead of the axle, would help.

Your fifth image, of the rear springs behind the rear axle, could be reshot from a lower angle in order to tell more.

Otherwise, you have the correct spacer at the rear shackle of the front spring, and at the front hanger of the rear spring. Those spacers do not appear to be worn out either.

We have seen a lot of tip inserts that were worn but the nib (the part that is sticking out of the spring) is completely intact and looks fine. The disk part that is actually making contact with the upper leaf may actually be pretty thin, brittle and possibly not existent...

okey dokes Y2k, I will get more pics. Thanks for the evaluation! I appreciate it.

So would you say the creaking is from dirt between the leafs?

Similar issue on my 2wd truck, but different.

Ever since I installed from front levelling kit (2" thick HDPE spring spacers), when I make a slow turn to the right, and only to the right, I get this grating noise which sounds like a piece of sheet metal scraping across bolt threads. I KNOW that it is not ball joints, front shocks, tie-rod ends/bushings, drop links/bushings, rotors, pads, slide pins, hubs, or wheel bearings because I've replaced them all, and the noise is still there.

The ONLY thing I've not replaced is the sway bar bushings, but they should not be making the kind of noise I'm hearing.

I also have not looked at motor mounts.

I'm also running a Mitsu starter instead of the huge Denso-style units, so I know that I don;t have a starter hitting the cross member.

Again, remember... my truck is 2WD with front coil springs.

Any ideas/suggestions?

That's nothing like what I am hearing. We are talking about creaking leaf springs here.

Is this the nib you refer to Junior?

Jack the truck up by the frame with axle hanging, then maybe you can get some penetrating oil squirted in between them leaf springs to confirm the creak.

Pete, You might have already tried this. But have you pulled the tire & rim off and spun the rotor with the wheel turned all the way to the right? My right tire on the Excursion was doing this scraping type of sound and it wound up being the dust shield over the rotor would occasionally touch the rotor & make that annoying sound. Drove me crazy for months!

This is what happened to my F550 on the front. The old inserts were worn through to the metal right in the middle. Truck sounded like it had arthritis on any little undulation in the roadway.

The 1999 F-550 inserts might be of a different design than a 2002 F-350. I know mine are much different than what is shown in the images above, as are my springs.
