Dyno Spartan

Has anyone gotten the chance to run their truck on a dyno to see how much HP/TQ that they are getting using the Spartan tunes?

I am hoping to do this soon. Whether or not this will happen is anyones guess.

I asked this on an earlier thread but didn't get a response...How do you like your manual? I wanted one for a while but the longer I looked for a truck the more options I wanted.

By the way I think you hold the record for most posts in 3 day period... I think around 100.

hahah do i really hold the record?? I have been bored these last couple days, which i guess shows. I like and dislike my manual hahaha. I like being able to control when it shifts, and not worry about an automatic doing stupid things. Things I don't like: The throw is crazy. Trying to get fast shifts in becomes pretty difficult. The granny gear (the "L" gear) is pretty hard to use. It's all the way to the left and down (reverse is all the way to the left and up) Yes, if you are planning on doing a normal shift, its not that bad from L to 1st, but if you are trying to do a fast shift, it can get tricky. Otherwise, you're stuck using 1st gear, which causes the truck to have really really really bad turbo lag. You sit there for a solid second, then you go. I know my truck is pretty fast, but I have to have a rolling start to beat most vehicles. I was next to a stock (from what I could tell) automatic f250 PSD and we both go into it. He killed me off the line, but after a little distance I beat him (I have the SCT). I live in northern virginia, and the traffic is insane here (2nd worse in the country, LA being 1st) Somtimes I would kill for an automatic instead of clutchin' so much. But other days I'm glad I have the manual, so I don't really know what I want

I drove a 7.3 with a manual. It was just an XL work truck and i really liked the way the manual felt. I used to have a 2000 F150 and I hated the way the automatic shifted ALL the time, but the diesel has the power to hold the gear. I did put the manual in low once though, I felt like I was just giving it throttle and the truck was even going forward, very odd feeling.

Alright I will stop hijacking your thread now

Yea, if you have it in low, you dont even have to give it gas....just let the clutch out and it will go. I taught my girl how to drive stick on it b/c it's almost impossible to stall hahaha.....don't worry about hijackin the thread, i did it to you lol....and i beleive the politcal correct term would be stealing or even using my thread....we don't want to endorse terrorists....im kiddin by the way hahahah

Yeah, did manage to stall that 7.3 once though...It was my first time to drive it and I was turning around with the steering wheel at full lock in 3rd gear. I think thats about the only way to stall those trucks.

Anyway, there is a dyno up the road, I might go check it out saturday and see what they say. And see if I can part with a couple dollars. I don't know about you but my truck is costing me an arm a leg and a lifes savings...

Do you commute from texas to get to work? I drive a lot and I keep my fuel bill around $350 a month. I think I have spent close to 4 grand just in stuff for my truck, not including my monthly payment.

actually you should never even need to use granny gear unless you are either towing a lot of weight, or doing some SUPER SLOW off roading/rock crawling.
for daily driving w/empty truck it is actually wasting time, you would be better off to just start in 1st. and instead of MASHING the throttle all the way to the floor, simply roll into it easy, slow and steady until you reach the floor, and it will move MUST FASTER. even the auto's are like this, if you just punch it, you will actually bog the truck down and it's possible to even stall it out like this, it wastes fuel, spikes the egt's and will result in a slower launch, so practice a little and you'll see what i mean .
the automatic is TRULY the way to go with these trucks man. they are a lot more sophisticated than slushpumps from years past, and you can even use the SCT to program the tranny parameters too...
the reason the auto guy beat you is cause he can do a "boosted launch" holding the brakes and adding throttle to "stall up the converter". this results in the truck building boost and when he lets off the brakes, he can launch with lots of power !! of course this creates a lot of heat in the converter and will kill a stock tranny/converter in a short time.

oh and to answer your question, YES i have dyno'd my truck with spartan tunes.
when i still had my stock fuel pump i dyno'd 470HP and 790TQ but the fuel pressure dropped to ZERO and my stock pump was maxxed out..

after adding the FASS the next dyno attempt resulted in 484HP/817TQ w/rock solid fuel pressure holding at 60psi===unfortunately tranny # 2 was picking that time/place to write me a "john deere" letter

i have no doubt that once i build the tranny (again) i will be well over 500HP w/current setup, and i've already got the ball rolling to reach the 600HP goal
