1) Bad idea
2) Highly illegal
3) Sounds funny
4) Creates a lot of turbulence and backpressure in the hollow cat.
5) Exhaust will stink
6) Did I mention illegal?

It's not worth the hassle of cutting the pipes apart to get to them to remove the guts. Just have a new Y pipe made with 2 high-flow converters, although, the originals aren't very restrictive.

Do you have tailpipe sniff smog checks, or are you going to soon get them? If so, you will fail and have to replace them.

Also, roadside sniffers are being tested, you won't get past those guys.....

Very bad idea, those that are doing it are telling you it is great because they think that noise = power.... it doesn't. You WILL lose power by hollowing it out. If you have your head stuck on doing it then cut them out and replace it with a peice of pipe, you will have much better scavenging but it will be loud and sound like a chainsaw that backfires.

If your cats are failing (broken/melted) then cut them out and replace the 4 with 2 high flow cats, it will sound great and you may gain a little bit of power.

Yeah real bad idea. If you end up having to replace these things be prepared because they are hellishly expensive. And yes it will give you a trouble code.
I lost the cats on the left side of mine and it coded up faulty cat. It cost me 1200 bucks to replace the one side only.

you can get aftermarket ones that are a fraction of the cost of new ones. magnaflow makes some, there is a sponser on this site as well that sells cats. You can get direct fit ones ($$$$) or just normal ones and have them welded in by a good exhaust shop.

If you replace the 4 with 2 you will not get a check engine light. If you gut them you probably will get one unless you get some MIL eliminators or use a tuner to remove the checks from the PCM.

I spend about $600 CDN to replace the 4 with 2 Magnaflow cats with new pipe. I couldn't be happier.

sounds like 2 high flows is the way to go... No sniff test in my county but I would doubt if it happened soon. I also don't want to have to deal with the codes, etc. Thanks guys
