Ok so I have been thinking about this for a wile, and cannot find anything that would not work.
What I am thinking is converting my 2wd to a 4wd with the use of a crossover steering system and the stock 2wd steering box in the stock location. I would take the steering arm and move it from the front of the axle to the rear, and install the bracket that is attached to the steering knuckle backwards. Then the arm that goes form the right knuckle to the left would be installed in the correct location. I would also weld in some leaf spring brackets, and also a transfer case. The picture below should help see what I am talking about. Thank you.
Why not go get a wrecked 4 wheel drive and put your body on? There are plenty around arent there? that way you wouldnt have that nervouse twitch when your doing 70 mph the first year.
i thought you couldent have steering linkages from the back of the axle because of interference with the axle yoke and drive shaft. even though this is a better set up.....
i was thinking about that too... but if (and i plan on it) i lift the truck a bit then the drive shaft will be lower, compared to the steering, and then as the axle goes up the steering will go up also. the other think that will help is the fact that the drive shaft is on the side of the steering box, so thesteering are will be the higest and the furhtest back. and if it did then i could put a kink it the steering arm?? i think that this is enough possible that it is worth a try. and if it doesnt work then i will just put on hydro steering, but that is a lot more $$$$
Maybe I am nuts but wouldn't that give you the senario where you turn left - truck goes right, you turn right truck goes left? Or I am I not pickin up what your throwin down?
i had to think about that one too, but i will use the stock 2wd box that does the steering now very simaler to what i am thinking about doing, so no it would not, as i turn the wheel to the right the arm will go to the left (just like a stock 2wd) and pull the BACK of the passenger tire into the body and the front of the driver tire into the body. same as a stock 2wd steering i will just have a axle in place of the twin ibeams.
