Who's on 3rd?
Here is the problem, for what ever reason, when I slow down below 40mph 3rd gear disapears. Truck is 352 with 3 on the tree, if someone cuts me off and I need to hit the brakes as soon as I go below 40 I get a grinding noise and truck is in neutral, all I need to do is push the cluth and go back into 3rd and I have no problems but its an annoying new problem, as I mentioned in an earlier post I was raised and Pontiacs and Dodges so Ford still holds many mysteries to me and I have never before owned a 3 speed.
I've called around and most places like CarX refsed to look at it as my truck is too old for them, I do have an apointment to go to Edwards Transmissions in Indy in 2 weeks but I was hoping to find a quick fix while I wait.
Thx for your time

If you are mechanically inclined a manual transmission is pretty simple to rebuild as long as you have the bearings, syncros, races, and seals. I have rebuilt a few over my time and the hardest thing is cleaning the gear oil off your clothes afterwards. Just stay out of the house or cab until you strip all your stinky clothes off. Otherwise you will be smelling it for weeks.
All the parts to fix the trans are available from NAPA.
The usual cause when the trans pops out of gear when slowing down: worn 2-3 syncro brass blocker rings.
