Hello all, I have a 93 ford bronco with the 351 and e40D and recently I have been having problems with my truck going into 1st and 3rd. Even if I pull the lever down manually it will not go into 1st or 3rd. I have to take off in 2nd and go straight to 4th. And if I try to take off in drive it will try and take off in 4th. Took it into the trans shop and they said there were some solenoids out. and luckily they would have to break into the transmission. BUT they wanted to charge me $300 to change the solenoids. Does anyone know anything about any solenoids that would have anything to do with shifting. I think this is probably a lil high. what do you guys think??
Sprayed there are solenoids in your transmisson( e40d) electronic)Wondering how many miles are on your transmisson? At 160000 i opted and had my rebuilt by a ford shop 1992 351 e40d . The cost can be high between 1500- 2500 at posts ive seen in here. so 300 is not so bad . i think my rebuild was around 1800.So depending on mileage mabey a rebuild might be an option .Especially if u plan on keeping your ride .Try doinG a search in here theres been a alot of posts on the e40d transmisson Good luck TR
If you are mechanically inclined, look into rebuilding the tranny your self. I'm about ready to do it myself. I have had nothing but trouble with my E4OD tranny since I had my beast of burdon. I've had my tranny rebuilt twice now. And it is slipping again. Apperently having hard time finding a shop that knows how to rebuild these E4OD trannies.
