I brought my truck in today for some reoccurring 2-3 flare issues. Last fall I started to notice it rev from 2-3 and sometimes stick in 3rd gear on start up. Well it went all winter and it completely went away no flare no 3rd gear starting just perfect shifts. Well now it has started again but its worse! Now I'm getting 1-2nd flare hit and miss 2-3rd and just today it started coming out of lock up in 5th gear driving down the interstate @ 70 mph. Its at Ford right now and only been an hour but the wait is killing me to find out what it is. I bought a rebuilt Valve body from Central Valve Bodies and I was going to have them throw that in while I got the transmission flushed. When I got the new problem this morning though I am having them just diagnose it and let me know. I hope its not much sometime with everything going on I cant get ahead.
how do i get this shifter notched piece off with out taking apart the whole tranny. My own fix it repair went bad and i broke the pin that comes off the notched shifter piece. If i cant i am joist going to fab up a bolt/pin and drill out where the other one was. here are some pics. anyone got a service manual pdf they could share.
I posted a valve body problem a while ago and now have an Issue again. about 3 months ago I replaced a valve body in my 2001 explorer sport trac and solved all my transmission problems. Recently the mileage has severely dropped down to 11 mpg and that is with my wife driving 60 mph to work on a straight flat road. After driving it my self i noticed it was not locking up. Now the valve body gasket blew our by the reverse piston thingy leaving my wife stranded at work i got there to pick her up and i was able to limp it home she was not able to drive because whatever gear she put it in it didn't want to move just rev up. I was some how mysteriously able to get it going and drove it home with it slipping and revving up and it got better as it warmed up. the truck was also making a very unusual hissing/ whining while idling and light acceleration and went away over 3000 rpms. I fixed the valve body gasket and this fixed my shifting and flaring issue but i am still getting the hissing whining noise and still wont lock up in any gear. Is this a valve body issue and should i get it tested. the transmission seems to be fine shifting and everything is as normal but I cant figure it out. I also cant afford to take it in either but am very mechanically inclined and need to fix it myself. Is there anything else that can cause these issues.
