Replace new tires?

Just wonder how many of you have ditched your Pirelli Scorpians for a better tire when the Pirilli's were new?

I only have 15,000 miles on the truck, and I hate to sink $800 for new tires, but these Pirilli's really suck.

Poor wet traction and just mediocer in the snow.

Comments?

Mine sucked in snow too and I got the truck stuck 2 - 3 times and couldn't afford to get the truck stuck with the family out in the woods. I had 14000 miles on my truck and went with Cooper Discoverer STTs. The tires work much better now. My tires cost just shy of $1000.

Get another set of wheels & tires... keep the Pirellis for summer, and switch over to the others for the winter. I got a set of 285/70-17 BFG A/Ts, and am satisfied with their balance of traction, rolling resistance, and noise.

Sell the Pirellis, donate them to charity and write it off on your taxes, find a needy family with a pickup that can use the tires.

As for waiting, why? Is your safety and your family's safety worth getting another (unsafe) 20,000 miles out of the bad tires?

I'll second the recommendation for the BFG AT's. Ice and compact snow traction aren't what I want (4 wheel drive helps here) but loose snow, wet traction and dry traction are good, low noise and I'll get at least 60k out of these tires (based on what I am seeing at 30K).

My 07 didn't come with Pirellis....it came with Continentals.

From the time I picked it up at the dealer they lasted 50 miles on the truck before I went and traded them in at my tire store for some Silent Armor Pro Grades.
They gave me like a $300 credit towards the new tires. And these Silent Armors kick butt in the snow.....I was in 4x4 on the way home and I was shocked how well I could accelerate at lights without any tire spin.

My 01 came with Firestones....they lasted 2000 miles before my lift came in (ordered it the day I bought the truck) and I put some 35 BFG ATs on the truck.

For the record I thin the Silent Armor Pro Grade is a better tire in snow and rain than the BFG AT.

I was going to go with Bridgestone Dueler's, I have them on my Mountaineer and Explorer and they are great tires....Excellent in the snow and mud. Also excellent in the rain.

I was interested in the 33x12.50R18 Toyo M/Ts.....but they are only rated for 2910lbs each tire so there was no way I could run them.

I have been using Wranglers, and have alternated between the wrangler pro grade silentarmors and the wrangler AT/D2. Almost the same tread, but the AT/D2 has a solid outer ridge. That seems to cut down on the wandering quite a bit. I am, however, impressed with the prograde silent armors traction, which is on the truck now. Like I said, the trade off is the wandering.

I have Toyo tires and really like them. Just make sure they are the proper load rating ( load rating D or E or ?) . I think they ride so smooth because the sidewalls aren't as stiff as other tires.

It's more important to look at the load rating in lbs vs. the load range D or E

Toyo 33/12.50R18s are a Load Range E.....but are only rated at 2910lbs per tire.
Same with the Kumho Road Venture M/T in the same size.

Goodyear Silent Armor Pro Grades, Mickey Thompson MTZ, Hankook Dynapro MT, and possibly a few other 325/60R18s (33/13R18) are load range E....but rated at 3525lbs per tire.
