i want to do a shackle flip and read that the rear front hangers from an f250 would work. i have an 83 f150. could i use the front hangers from another f150 also and what year truck should i get them from? cause im running to the junkyard tommorow. also about how much will this lift?
I am not confident that the 150 spring is the same width as the 250 (3" wide after 77)hanger. If yes, then it will work. If no then you will need to find one that matches the same spring width for the easies install.
How much lift? This is dependant upon how much drop the new hanger is gonna have. Each truck has a slightly different drop and this will effect the overal heigth.
The current condition of your springs will also have an overall effect on the final heigth.
Use quality grade 8 bolts when you perform your mod, and watch your new shackle angle.
If you are using a hanger similar to the front fixed hanger on your rear spring, you can expect approx 4 to 4.5 inches of lift. This is enough to eliminate the factory blocks.
If this is your goal, make sure you get new u-bolts since the aol ondes will be too long.
Good mod, pretty straight foward.
That is correct. Lots of luck doing this in a "you pull it" yard. They do not generally allow any flame, and using a swaz-all even cordless is difficult to do.
These are actually availabe through Ford, and are not that expensive.
If the facility allows you to cut the entire frame, it becomes a little easier.
You also want to be aware not to destroy the hole in the hanger, or tamper too much with it and disturb the hole itself, you could make the outer edge too thin, and you will never get the proper clamping force from the bolt.
Just take your time.
ok thanks for bringing up that good point. its gonna be a pain to get them from the junkyard. so ill try the ford dealer tommrow. hopefully its not too much. to lift the front i think im gonna go with the spacers. i already have f350 coils so unless i get lift coils dont have much of a choice.
That would be difficult to gauge since you have springs in there that we do not know how much lift they actually provide, so a number in inches is monitary.
At any rate, the pivot would have to be dropped with the appropriate drop bracket.
