Hi everyone. I have a 1994 Ford F-150 4x4 with a 5.0. I'm trying to get the timing cover off to replace the gasket and I can't seem to pull the harmonic balancer. When I try to get that bigger center bolt loose, the whole blasted thing turns, regardless of which way I'm turning. Can anyone tell me what I might be doing wrong? Please help, I'm ready to pull my hair out.....
I use an Impact wrench now.
But at one time I did use a 1/2" drive breakover bar and wedge it to something down there and tap the starter. The wrench went flying but the bolt was loose and I did not hurt anything. But you may not be so lucky so be very careful if you do it that way as it is very dangerous.
Thank you for answering. My neighbor has an impact wrench that he's going to let me useI can be a little clumsy at times, so I probably wouldn't have good luck doing it the other way...lol

Welcome to the FTE. I guess I should had said this above.
the bolt turns counter clockwise-not being funny-use a large pry bar on a tooth on the flywheel-2 man job and turn away-also spray the bolt washer with a good penetrating lube-aerocoil is one of the best-not cheap but darned good!!!
Another method I have seen is using a chain or belt wrench to hold the pulley in place until the bolt is broken loose. A manual tranny works good if you leave it in gear to help hold the crank in place.
