Why does for limit us?!?

Am looking to get an 08 which will have to be ordered, as I want the v10. Iwant the fx4 besause i dont lijke chrome, but wonder why it is only offered in five colors? seems like they could offer it in tthe full range of colors. also would love the dual zone airconditioning they offer in the lariat and would happily pay for it butit isnt even offered in the truck i want. to head off the inevitable I dont want a lariat as i dont want leather seats. which reminds me why cant i pay for a power rear window in the fx4 or memory package with cloth seats. Just doesnt make sense to me that they build these great trucks with awesome options but limit how you can get them.

I bet a bean counter did some math and found that $$$ either didn't support the options or that they could get more people to by the more expensive version and with limited options makes inventory and manufacturing a little easier.

I personally went with the '08 Lariat 4x4. Dual climate is/was not an option... my fiancee and I are polar (maybe not polar, I could be at the north pole and she would be perfectly content in a much HOTTER place) She wonders why she can only get the heat to go to 90!!!

That being sad, I do agree with you... I also wish they would think far enough ahead to have ALL the options available in the first models. I don't understand why additional options appear through out the same current model year ($$$$). I really want Tire Pressure sensors and the back up camera.

Certain options are packaged together because some marketing guru decided that this was the best way to optimize the value of the option package (what ever that means). I think it's just a way to increase profit, myself.

You bet it is! Making every option availible on every truck might be handy for those of us who would order our truck from the factory, but it would increase production costs, and lower profit. Plus, it would make buying a truck offf the lot confusing since you wouldn't know what options an Fx4 or lariat had without looking really carefully. Some customers like the comfort of knowing which options are availible on each trim line.

I feel your pain. I also ordered a 2008 FX4 because I don't like chrome. I would have paid for the dualzone heat, power rear window, heated seats, center console, power fold mirrors, back up camera, etc. But I couldn't because they are not available with the truck I wanted (FX4, manual transmission, job 1 order/job 2 build). So in the end Ford didn't get my money for expencive options and I got a cheaper truck.

I never wanted leather interior unitl I got it. If that is really all that you don't like about a Lariat package, might want to consider it. It wears well, and cleans up easier than cloth. You could always use seat covers if you are worried about ruining the leather. Could be the difference between getting the color you want or not.
All the bells & whistles that come on a Lariat will help with resale value if that matters.

It's not just with the trucks. I was doing some forward planning looking at cars(oldest daughter is 13, license is not that far off...) just to see what's out there and how much it will cost. There was one that if you wanted a certain option(I forget what) you had to get the SYNC system. If I ever go to get that car I will tell the dealer that I want option X and if Ford demands that I get SYNC with it that's fine as long as they pay for it because I don't want it. If it's a no-go then they will not get my business. Besides, I think I'd rather get a new truck for me than three new cars, one for each daughter.....

Ford has tons and tons of options compared to say Toyota.

Go over to Toyotas site and build a truck. On most trucks you have 3 option groups and thats pretty much it.

Ford cuts down on colors for $$$ sake, it also makes it easier and quicker for them to have certain packages have certain things within the package.
