Hello, my name is Alex, and I come from a very Ford family. We have two F250 Lariats, a 1989 and a 1990, a 1993 Mustang (my commuter), a 2000 Explorer, a 94 Sable, a 94 Aerostar, and a 2003 Mach 1. Anyway, my inquiry is about my sister's 1990 F250. One of her friends from high school pulled into my driveway while I was working on the 93 Mustang, and asked if we were looking to get rid of the 90 F250. I am posting on here to find out what the truck is worth. The truck isn't running, because a transmission shop stole the transmission from it, ironically. However, it is a solid 4wheel drive body with little rust and a lift kit (4 inch I think). I would probably just sell the whole thing to him because I don't have time to part it out. What is a good price to ask for a 1990 rolling chassis? Sorry for rambling, I don't always type this much.
I'm kinda laughing at this post. First off, a '90 250 without a tranny, regardless of condition or number of drive axles, is worth about a grand, considering the next buyer is gonna have to put a new one in.
Now, be honest here....you say a transmission shop STOLE your tranny. Do you have them on videotape stealing it? Or did you take it there to be rebuilt, then didn't pay? I haven't heard anything about rogue bands of evil tranny thieves stealing cores in the middle of the night...

Something smells fishy...

Sorry, I wasn't entirely clear. The front seal on the transmission was bad, and my sister kept driving it with little or no tranny fluid, which made something more serious in the transmission go out. ...So my sister had AAA take her truck down to Titus transmission, which happened to be owned by my sister's boyfriend's relative (uncle or cousin). Anyway, the guy at Titus said that the particular part in the transmission that needed replaced couldn't be, as the part isn't made anymore. My sister then asked if she could keep the truck in their lot until she could have it moved somewhere else. A few weeks later, my sister finally had the truck moved to our more local mechanic, who informed us that a good portion of the gears in the transmission were missing. I know this sounds like BS but it's true. (I said the transmission was stolen, but it was most of the gears inside). Our mechanic priced the parts missing at a couple thousand dollars. My sister was in the process of getting a lawyer to sue, but Titus by that time had gone out of business and the owner was not able to be found. That Christmas my sister bought her 89 F250 for $1000, and she hasn't really done anything with the old truck.
The 90 has the 5.0 engine, which was fine before the transmission was removed, who knows now its condition. It also has an alpine cd deck, and h-pipes, if that matters. $1000 sounds high for a truck with (pretty much) no transmission. We'll probably ask $1000 for it, but accept less than that.
Thanks for any input on the subject.

Granted I havent priced out a tranny in a while. "Well there was one, but I thought it was a girl, I swear" yuk, yuk. Seriously that seems awful steep just for parts. But if that includes labor, I dont know. I think the first reply was about right.
If the rest of the truck is clean like you say, no rust, decent interior, etc. then $1000 is about right. For another $1000 (I'm guessing here) you put a trans under it and have a pretty decent truck at a fair price.
The truck isn't rust free, it just doesn't have a ton of it. there is some rust on a few body panels, but nothing that leaks or will affect stability. It is a standard cab, not extended. Goose neck hitch, truck box. It was a really good truck until my sister ran it into the ground. It has just been a lawn ornament recently, so we want to get rid of it and we'll accept almost any offer.
put it on craigslist for 750 and it will sell. 1000 and it might take quite a while for it to sell, just depends on how long you will sit on it for before you sell it. there will always be someone that will come along and pay every penny that you are asking. It just depends on how fast you want it gone...
