I have been reading alot in the forum here about the 6637 filter mod. Is it better than an after market branded kit? Are there any por's and cons to going either way?
I am getting ready to delete my AIH and while I am under the hood would like to upgrade the intake as well. Any help in making a good decision would be appreciated.

The 6637/Kwik/Tymar intake is by far and away the best intake for the 7.3's. It will flow more air than your engine can use, and it's alot cheaper. I don't know of any cons on it. But the others use oiled media, and those tend to let fine particles through thus sanding out your turbo. Do the 6637, you won't be sorry.
the 6637 flows air like crazy, you'll notice a huge difference immediately! The only con I can think of.....and this is actually a PRO for me, is the noise from it. It isn't the quietest filter, you can literally hear the air getting sucked into the turbo through it, and there is a "whoosh" sound when you shift, or let off the gas. Most love the sounds from it, but some don't like it......strictly personal preference.
I run the ford AIS, but for approx. $40 the 6637 is a great upgrade and has show great results on used oil analysis reports. You might want to consider buying one of Pete's filter cover sleeves for it, effective & look sharp.
What is the installation procedure for this air cleaner mod? What will I need regarding parts?
My 2002 7.3 just came tot he end of the warranty period and I will be tuning with a DiabloSport Pred in the coming days hopefully. I would like to make this air filter mod as well.
Thanks, Jimmy
Now I dont meant to hijack but I have a question about the 6637. How dirty does it get?
I go through stock air filters like you would not believe and was thinking about upgrading to a stage 2 intake just for the reusable filter.

The 6637 has a tramendous amount of surface area, remember your stock filter is rect, small and flat, Now look at the 6637, it's huge and cylindrical.
If you use one of Pete's covers, you can extend the filter life. Just pull it off and wash it. Kinda wish I would have got two now, one to keep clean while the other is on.

Yep, good point, I have one of these covers and will get another.

NO!!!! Don't do it. Spend the money for a DP from Jody. It is NOT the Diablo Predator. I made that mistake when I was new to this site.
The Predator is decent, but it won't make a wart on the a$$ of the DP.
I would think the only con to the 6637 is you suck in alittle warmer air on hoter days from the motor heat. But since we have an intercooler it cools that hot air anyways, plus the zoodad helps rush air at the filter more. I would still do it 10X more then buying anything else.

I will second the cover for the 6637 from Pete! I just got 2, one was the Black and the second was neon green. I was a guinea pig for the new Neon Green color and it looks KEWL!!
Many thanks again Pete.
