i have a 85 f250 with an old 6.9L diesel, driving along and it died. i cant seem to get it going again. i replaced the fuel filter, but its still no go.
ANY SUGESTIONS
are you getting fuel at the filter head? IE, is your fuel pump working? Have someone crank over while pressing the schrader valve on filter head, see if any fuel comes out.
What is the fuel level in the tank selected........ if it is at or below 1/4 full there is probably no fuel beeing picked up at the tank. The older drucks have a problem with the fuel pickup on the sender/pipe brak off at the 1/4 tank mark. You can fix them by removing the tank. then getting a new pickup or putting a pipe extension on the pickup pipe.
the tank that is selected is full, but their is a little bio-crap mix with the real diesel. and i know it geting fuel up to the top of the engine, but it dosn't make it in the injectores,
i was told it could be my Cam Sensor, but im not sure it has one
No cam sensor on a 6.9. My brother had a 7.3 act the same way, fuel at the schrader valve, but it would not run. The lift pump was weak and not delivering enough fuel. Replaced the lift pump and was good to go. Hope this helps Tom
Do a pressure and flow test of the fuel pump at the Schrader valve on the filter header (FSS- fuel shutoff solenoid disconnected on IP). Remove the tire valve core and hook a hose and pressure guage on it should see 4-6 psi when cranking. Then do a fuel quantity test same place, should see 1/3 pint in 10 seconds of engine cranking, route fuel to a suitable container with a hose.
If there is a problem with the lift pump and you are changing it, ensure the new pump comes with instructions as to correct installation procedure if it is the newer model pump with the almost straight arm.
