Last time she was running a few months back wasnt too great. High idle was always kicking in, which is really annoying... And it'd kinda bog down when the secondaries kicked in, then the power would come.
The timing last I checked was pretty good, but I'm questioning my ignition system a bit. I wish i knew someone around here who knew how to tune a carb'd engine.
It is always on high idle? How old is the carb and when was it last rebuilt? Is the choke electric or manual? What carb is it? Next what is the thermostat range? Easiest way is to get a vacuum gauge from the auto parts store, hook it up to a warm engine on manifold vacuum, not from the carb but just after the carb. Adjust the bleed screws at low idle until you get max Vacuum and it is set for the engine. Otherwise it is requires listening and watching the engine for good idle which is just a little shake in the engine, basically adjusting till the engine doesnt shake the vehicle and then backing off about 1/2 turn on the bleed screw, I personally like the vacuum guage method vs the tune by ear.
As a former believer of the famous Chrysler TorqueFlite 727 transmission to be indestructible, I will say this about the C6 in my '83: It's tough. This truck is HEAVY and will bark the tires if I barely punch the gas.
Mine came to me one step from the crusher. The engine ran, but had tons of vacuum leaks from old emission stuff that had been removed, but had no lines capped. It took most of an afternoon, but when I got through, the thing sure ran better with all the useless plumbing removed. It still drinks gas, though.
The C6 is a good transmission. What does your fluid look/smell like?

NSSHULL asked a question that I've always wanted to ask but never did....How do you set total timing? What is involved and what does this do/mean? Thanks in advance for shedding some light....
I think you missed the point.....I dont want to send the HP and torque into smoke, I want the ability to though. If I can't smoke the tires it means I'm not getting the power I should be getting when I am hauling my 3000lb camper.
