New Y Block engine

Looking to do an engine replacement in my 1962 F100. Not sure what engine to go with. Would like to replace/rebuilt it with a New Y Block engine. Does anyone know where I could by a Y - Block crate engine that produces 300hp?

That Y-block was last used in 64, I don't want to say no way, but I doubt that you would be able to find one.

Good hunting though

It's my understanding that you can get a Y-Block long block through NAPA. Don't know about the HP though. Also check out John Mummert's site: http://www.ford-y-block.com/index.html
Don't know if he sells complete engines but he has all the parts. Won't be cheap though.

The chances of finding a new "crate" Y block engine with 300+ HP will be slim and none.

Ford only offered two Y block engines with over 300 HP, both were 312's, and Ford only offered them in 1957.

One was for NASCAR (sold to Holman & Moody)...it put out 340 HP with dual quads.

The other 312 was used with the Supercharged engine.

Either one of these if found new in the crate, will bring 10 grand or more.

Ford also offered a non NASCAR version of the 312 with dual quads, but the HP was rated at 270.

These engines were optional on 1957 Ford Fairlanes and T-Birds.

There ARE new Y blocks out there...where to look?

Long time boatyards. Y blocks were used in boats for many years.

Look around, you might get lucky.

At a boatyard auction several years ago, I bought two new in the crate 427 long blocks, and several crates of NOS parts for less than 2 grand.

I replaced my 292 with a fresh rebuilt long block in September. Motor has run well with NO problems so far. Here is a copy of the invoice so you can get the builder's address, part # and my cost. They offer a 7 year/70,000 warranty.

John,

I'm aware of that...just thought that since he's not likely to find a 292 crate option my direction might help.
