ya i drove it, all gears slide into place like butter, the clutch is VERY firm, from a cold start (i felt the block and exhaust) i let the glow plugs warm and it fired RIGHT up, smoked until the engine got to running temperature then it didnt smoke at all. everything in the cab works, except i think it needs a new heater box the thing that plugs in to warm the oil?) and a new blower for the heat, it defrosted the window but he said the blower was bad? the front leaf springs are starting to warp and reverse arch........he told me its about a $75 fix if i pull the leaf springs, or i can just buy a leveling kit. i think thats all thats wrong with it besides the valve cover gasket, and the beat up body, and w/e else i said in the posts above.
I bought my first one (picture in my sig) for a grand. It had a straight body but had to be ethered to start and barely ran - plus had 4 bald tires on it.
If it's a good runner, and isn't a rust bucket, a grand is a steal - especially with another decent set of tires...
6.9s seem to be getting more expencive lately, at least they are where I am. I paid $3500 for a truck very close to the one cheeper had, bald tires and all, but it was the only one that ran well and wasn't rusty (was looking for nearly a year). The average price of a 6.9 is now $5000 locally, and 7.3s in the $3000-$4000 range........
I say go for it, if you don't mind the apearence, and its mechanically sound, its a good deal. You can rustle up a new body as time permts if you ever want to make it look nice, but in the mean time, thats a lot of truck for $1000. I paid $300 just for a set of aluminum rims like that.
