well i think it is luck of the draw i have a 04 with a sept 03 built date and i have went through 2 egrs, turbo, oil cooler, intake gaskets, fuel sending unit, both hubs, carrier bearing, and soon an icp sensor but i have heard people with little to no issues with the 04's

I bought my apr 04 build date with 50000 on the clock...got 75k now. I change the oil every 5k and fuel filters every 10k. Mine came with a clean oasis. Only problem i have is the oil leak coming off the bell housing. just a drop every couple of days, not a big deal to me. Maybe some day i will take it to the ford dealership for the dye check procedure. btw my 2 daughters always ask "can we take the truck?"

Our 2004 E450 6.0 has 93,000 miles on it and its never been touched except for oil and filter changes. We change out the Rotella 5W-40 every 7,500 miles and never use any kind of additives.

Mine was doing the same thing ended up being the oil cooler on the top of the engine and the intake gaskets better do it before the warrenty expires because instead of $100 you will have much much more in it

Not sure if this was stated.. What build is the block? Late 04 blocks got an ICP change which relocated it to the Valve Cover.. I personally perfer that choice, over the early 04 block.. I have a late 04 block in my 2004 and it's never given me a lick of problem.. Well other than what I intentionally break on it LOL

I drive an '04, early build date (essentially an '03) and I love it. I bought it with 69K on the clock. It did need a new EGR and oil cooler almost immediately, but that was done under warranty. Prior to my buying it, it had a turbo upgrade due to codes... Not a big deal on any of the "in warranty" repairs. Equipped as my signature describes-no tuner-it runs the ricers into the ground (except that one Honda 2000). OASIS is the key! Don't buy ANYTHING without running one, and a carfax report too...

Yea I didn't pull an oasis when I bought my truck but it had 145k miles so I figured everything had been resolved. When I finally got an oasis I found out that it had only been in for recalls along with one EGR cooler, fa clutch and one turbo at 89,000 miles, other than that it was spotless. Just after I got the truck at 160,000 miles the turbo seals went or I just could notice it easier because I put a 4 inch exhaust on so I changed the turbo since I could not find a seal rebuild kit for it. At that time I also completely deleted the EGR system, closed the turbo up pipe where it connected to the EGR and everything. Then right after I replaced the turbo the alternator went out. To me everything has lasted pretty well and I am VERY happy with this truck. Also have had an SCT tuner on it since 150k.

I had an 04 and absolutly loved it. I like my 06 but I wish I had my 04 back. That thing ran like a spotted ape and never gave me trouble.

Or use:

just inline between the crankcase and intake to filter the oil out... Less expensive than most I've seen....
