Carbed to EFI conversion

I was just looking through the many posts that ask the question "How can I get more power out of my EFI 460". After reading through many of these posts and seeing how much it costs to SLIGHTLY improve the torque and hp numbers of this engine, a thought crossed my mind and I was wondering if this would work? Take the EFI heads, intake and exhaust manifolds off, and re-install an Edlebrock Performer or Weiand #8012 with intake ports drilled and bungs welded in for the injectors. Up the comp. ratio with DOVE heads with or without oversize valves, but definitely a three angle valve job. Exhaust headers are by far cheaper for pre-EFI heads, say a set of Hedman headers #89340. You could possibly even change the cam to up the H.P. & Torque #'s considerably. Would this work??? and if not why???? Now I'm sure it wouldn't just "bolt right up" but hey all of us here using the FTE posts already know that when dealing with Fords. I know there are alot of thinkers as well as tinkerers that use this forum, Please repy with your 2 cents.

I think it would be a great idea! I have thought about doing this as well. Some of the tricky bits that I think need solving are:
1) machining the 'carb' intake to accept the injectors
2) machining the 'carb' intake to accept fuel rail mounts
3) creating an adapter for a throttle body to the carb flange.

It would be cool to use a larger throttle body as well. What if you use 2 Mustang HO throttle bodies (a 4 barrel?) and just use one sides Idle Speed Control?

Seems like a lot of machine/welding shop time. ($$$)

How well does epoxy on intake manifolds hold up?

Epoxy will work depending on excellent surface prep. I have a set of 4V 351C heads with alloy port tongues and to match port the intake manifold it was drilled and taped from underneath, for a bolt to stick into the port then 3/4 filled (from the floor up) with an epoxy. The epoxy and bolt ground to final shape. No probs.

I have pondered many different aproaches to getting max power from my EFI 460. Heres a few points, also if you look back i have a posting string with a MAF convert to a 460. Anways to the points, the EFI heads when ported on a bench flow equal to a set of ported CJ heads, just do the larger valves and porting, next order yourself up a set of EFI 460 high compression pistons KB has em 10:1 for $500 or $600 spend the money for a MAF kit and a cam , now you have an EFI Sequential Port injected 400-375 HP motor without too much fabrication. easy yeah right

well good luck but prepare your self for some involvement
