I suggest the Pro-comp they are cheap, look good, and my last set out lasted the truck(sold it with good tires) I tried to get them on my current truck but 4wheelparts didn't have 35x12x17 in stock. I got the BFGs and they too are lasting a long time but It seems like I pick up every rock I cross, killing my paint job. No I dont want flares, and my wife would kill me if I go get the Pro-comps now......Wish I would have waited for them to restock.
That is very interesting. Hadn't really considered the pebble throwing issue. How quiet were the Pro Comps? When I get on the road I really don't want a whole lot of tire drone. I really like the appearance of the Wrangler Silent Armors, the Pro Comps and the Goodrich A/T's, but I get very mixed responses when I ask people about the Goodriches.
The BFGs will throw pebbles for the first 500 miles or so, then they get much better.
Many of the brands mentioned probably work very well. I personally have run the BFGs for 10 years on many different trucks, and I absolutley love them. They are a great all-around tire. I haven't run a set down to needing replaced, but my buddy claims to get 50,000 miles and more out of a set.
If I was going to spend the money on the BFG tire, then I'd get the M/T. It is a very good performing tire, gets good mileage, and cost about the same as the A/T.
Pro-Comp A/T and the BFGs are very quiet, and yes for the first 1,000 miles or so the BFGs threw a lot or rocks/pebbles, but I have about 85% tread left and still throwing more rocks than new Pro-Comps A/T, seams to have the same ride. But the Pro-Comp A/T are cheaper, I still have a set of old Pro-Comp Xterran in my shop, that I will be putting on as soon as I get the chance.
I have stock goodyear ats on my fx4 and they have the same tread pattern as the silent armour and they are at about half tread and I swear they wear designed to kill me in wet weather, especailly snow and ice.. the middle tread blocks are too cloise together.. cant wait to get rid of these pos tires..
I had Goodyear Wrangler A/Ts on an SUV a couple years back, and I felt the same way. I was dead scared driving that in the rain. It may not be right for me to condemn a whole brand because of a bad experience, but no more Goodyear for me.

If you think the rain is scary.. try snow and ice. No matter what you do gets no traction at all. I agree I have always disliked goodyear, this just tops it off.
I know what you guys are saying....but those were the bottom of the line good years. The Silent armors are better than any BFG out there in wet traction performance.
I had a cheap set of BFGs and hated them...They sucked when new, and at 1/2 tread, they were the worst tire I've ever had!

By "cheap set" I'm assuming you mean something other than the ATs or MTs, like the Rugged Trail or Long Trail? I agree, the cheaper ones absolutely suck. Only ATs and up for me...

Yea they might be the bottom line but they are the exact same tread design, and same compund as the silent armour. So I dont understand what the difference is in the silent armour, besides ply rating options.

i just bought a set of the bfg m/t's and i got them cheaper than the a/t's. check out ebay thats where i got them. i think they are 285/70/17 and i believe they cost me about $123.00 a piece which ain't bad for bfg's and if you find the right place they have free shipping.

yeah like i said i've got silent armours 275/70/18 10 ply and i live in northern alberta....these tires have only seen ice and snow. used to have bfg ats on a different truck i owned and these silent armours are hands down better for ride and traction... only had them a couple months so i don't know about longevity yet
No, they aren't exactly the same, and would you consider a rugged trail the same as your all mighty BFG A/T? Didn't think so!
The rugged trail and the bfg at do not have the same tread pattern, not even close. The ats and the silent armour do have the same tread pattern. And who said anything about bfg's being all mighty. I dont even have them to begin with, and I have considered buying them, but will not. Anyway I really dont give a ****, just saying the at/s sucks. Good luck with your cheap tires.

Mine were great the first 10k miles after that they dont work too well. Hopefully your silent armors treat you better then that. Good Luck.
