Hi everyone......I was replacing my air filter today and decided to take off the tube that goes to the turbo and look inside. To my surprise, I saw that the fins or blades of the turbo had chips out of them. Is this something to be concerned about? The turbo was replaced by ford about a year ago. thanks in advance for any help!
well the fins weren't installed with junks missing out of them. lol it's like looking down at your junk and seeing red bumps, you immediately know there is something to be concerned about. haha.
I just bought the truck a week ago and decided to change the air filter as it was a little dirty. It was the factory air filter in it and I put the same Ford air filter back in....I looked up in the records and the turbo was replaced under warranty about a year and a half ago. Does this mean that Ford won't pay for another?
if you are under the 100K mile or 5 year warranty ford might replace it under the warranty. I would be very concerned about driving it that way. That turbo comes apart any more and it goes straight to the intake. Did the person you bought it from have a after market intake on it and switched it over to stock when he sold it. Also did he ever run a tuner on it and does it have one now.
This truck was owned by a retired couple who towed a fifth wheel camper trailer. All service work was done at the dealer and there was never a tuner on it. Also, when loking at the turbo i noticed alot of oil residue in the tube going to the turbo. It looks like it is sucking oil out of the valve cover and ingesting it. Any suggestions?

The CCV does vent into the intake side CAC tube, so the oil is a dirty (but normal) side effect. If you're under 100K miles, call your servicing dealer and tell them what you saw "...the fins or blades of the turbo had chips out of them". Insist in a kind way that they have a comprehensive look at the turbo (impeller vanes). They will be remiss in their responsibility if they refuse you that service. Nice will get you farther than grumbling. You want them on your side. IMHO, you should not even mention anything to them about the trucks known (to you) history... They have OASIS to tell them what they need to know.
Thanks for your help! I will call the dealer tomorrow and see what they say. It would be nice to know what caused the chips and also if there might be any further damage in the engine...

When you take it to the dealer maybe they can shed some light on any further damange that might have been done. But if it is running good then it is probably ok.
