Replace Gauges.....?

I currently have tranny, Pyro, boost. They are old looking, edge lighted with tranny on the pillar and the others below the dash. I'd like to replace with some nice ones that match the Ford dash gauges as mich as possible (white/green numbers).

My question at this point is not which gauges to get. My questions are:

1) Can I re-use existing tap points, wires/lines etc...with my new gauges or would I have to install/use what comes with the particular gauges I purchase.

2) Current PYRO measured at a point that I would describe as post-turbo (the large brown piece headed downward. I've read there doing it in the Y-pipe is preferred (according to some install instructions I saw). Will temp differ greatly? Also...if I choose not to use the existing point and drill a new spot....do I just leave the existing tap in place (but not hooked to a gauge?)

Thanks

I would go pre turbo. Either tap into the exhaust manifold, or into the up-pipe off the manifold. If you tap into the exhaust manifold you will need to drill and tap. If you go into the up-pipe you can use the clamp type. You will get a true reading going pre turbo.

Installing the probe in the exhaust manifold or up pipes gives you an accurate reading of the exhaust temps the turbo is really seeing. The down pipe position that yours is in is safer, but is 300º-400º cooler. I would get a new pyro probe for the pre turbo install. You can leave you old one there, or remove it and plug or weld the bung shut.

ISS pro & Dricol make some of the best gauges. I installed Autometer Sport Comps and they matched the factory gauges and my interior perfect. I have had no problems with them in over 6 yrs , but their construction is not as nice as the ISS Pro I had in my previous truck. It's really personal preference when you get to the quality gauge levels. Just stay away from the Chinese made garbage. Buy quality, do it once and be done.

Check out the DiPricol guages, they are sweet but cost some $.

I have the Dipricol HPOP & Fuel Press, along with the Isspro EGT, boost & trans temo. If I ever get to spend money again I'd get the ful DiPricol setup.

I agree with the DiPricols -- match perfectly to the stock cluster and are LED back lit. Much better than bulbs. You should be able to use the wiring, but the DiPricols come with some really nice wiring that I would just re-do. It won't take all that long to do. If you already have a power & illumination feed, there's no reason why you couldn't use it, but I would verify the illumination wire and boost tube. If you go with the DiPricols, you don't want the illumination line dimming with the dash lights because of them being lit with LEDs. Also check the tube to make sure it's the same size so it fits in the gauge properly.

Just some thoughts on the subject. And here's what my DiPricols look like installed, FWIW:

I have gauge envy of my work truck. I just put new Diprocol Optix in them, and now i want them. My plan is to replace all the basic gauges i have now (fuel pressure, boost, trans and EGT), and then add one of those OBD Interceptor Scan Guages. I have Sport comps now and even though they are good quality, the Diprocols are btter.

Kris, I've been toying with the idea of adding one of the Interceptor gauges :

http://www.thegaugeman.com/main/index.htm

Or possibly one of these, just started comparing the two. Have not done enough homework yet.

http://secure4.spiderscope.com/vs/2556/dualgauges/tachometers.htm

either one of these might be nice to add to the standard EGT, Boost, tranny temp gauge setup to monitor parameters depending on your situation or to help in troubleshooting. Plug right into the OBDII port and the feedback so far is very positive from folks that have bought one. I know you've been watching these posts too. I've just been waiting since Oct to see if PSD owner has one yet. As you know some folks on the dark side (PSN) have been talking about them alot the past week or two.
