I own a '75 Ford Elite with the 400M. I would love to keep the engine but I dont have the money to spend on its rare aftermarket parts. I am now looking for an early 460. I called EVERY shop here in town and nobody had one. Any suggestions? Anyone wanna trade? (funny huh).
Thanks for the help.

"Rare" aftermarket parts? Hot Rod built a 382 hp 400 for less than $2G! I guarantee you're going to spend a minimum of $500 on swap parts alone to stuff a 460 in it and that doesn't even include the cost of the motor. Even if you did a bone stock rebuild on the bottom end but worked the heads over, put a decent cam & timing set in it and a 4V intake & headers you're going to get a bunch more power out of that 400.
I see what you are saying Bill but the thing is, my car is very heavy and its gonna take many horses to get it going like I want it to. I figured it would be easier to get the HP from the big block than the 400, money-wise that is. What im hoping for eventually is somewhere around 500+ HP. If im mistaken in my assumption let me know.
Thanks
[updated:LAST EDITED ON 29-Nov-01 AT 05:33 PM (EST)]Well there's no question that 500 ponies will get that rig movin' quite briskly. So if that's your target then I'd say a 460 would be the best bet. There's no substitute for cubic inches. Just be prepared to spend some extra $$$ on the swap parts. Sorry I can't help with locating a 460 in your neck of the woods, but there are plenty of parts locaters on the 'net. Otherwise you might want to contact P.A.W. and see what they have to offer.
