stuck in low range!

My 1989 F-350 in my signature is stuck in low range. The lever moves to the transfer case but it won't get out of low. There is no 2WD, 4WD HI, or neutral in the T-case. Just 4WD low. I put the truck in neutral, unlocked the hubs, and done all kinds of little manuvers to get it out but its still in low. I have heard to put the truck up on jackstands and put it in geart w/o a load to unbind the T-case. Has anybody heard of this or know of anything to help me? I was hoping I wouldn't have to pull it but I guess I might have to.

Double-check where the transfer case lever mounts on the transfer case. My son's '95 F250 had a similar problem...and the housing for the shifter assembly had broken where it pivots. It didn't look broken...until I looked at one that wasn't broken in a junkyard.

Disconnect the lever and mechanism from the t-case and shift it manually right at the case. See if it will change gears that way or not, if it does then it's a linkage problem, other wise most likely a t-case problem, most likely have to pull it then.
