I am looking to sell my 99 cavalier and get a ford escort. what year escort gets the best gas mileage? I have heard people getting 35-40 mpg which is lots better than the 25 mpg the cavi gets no matter how i drive it. any years to stay away from? which ones were most reliable? thanks!!
I have a '96 Escort. It's at 144,000 miles, and gets at least 800 miles per week. In the winter it's dropped to about 35-36 MPG, in the summer it gets 37-38 MPG. It's been very reliable.
I have a '95 that easily got 35-40 mpg. However it is sitting in the back yard right now; it threw a rod at about 145K. Transmission is still fine. The only thing that ever had to be replaced was the water pump and timing chain. The body and interior held up really well. If I can find another 1.9L this summer then I'll probably drop it in because it's not a bad car.
97 or 98 was the body change. I have a 95 wagon with 179,000 miles runs good yet. 1.9 auto. I get around 30 mpg. I also had a 91 1.9 auto that also got around 30. I think the manual tranny will get you 35 - 40 mpg.
I don't own one myself, but I have a close friend who drives a 96 escort LX wagon. Its daily driven, 1.9 auto, with just about 200,000 miles. I've driven it on a couple different road trips, it'll get 41-42 mpg going 65mph on the highway.
They're great little cars, I'm looking for one myself.
my car is a 1999 ford escort zx2.. its a great car i've owned..
