Ok...I pulled a 429 from a 73 T-bird Friday. Tonight I got the numbers off the heads and intake. The heads are D3VE-A2A. The intake number is D3VE-A1B. Ok...I know this so far. D=70's 3= the year V=lincoln and E=engine. What does the A2A on the heads and the A1B on the intake mean? Also...this engine came out of a Thunderbird so why isn't the cast number D3SE Can someone clarify this for me please...
Please don't pull out in front of me! I can't afford to play "What's this?" with you or your car.
It doesn't say D3SE because it is the same part as used in the Lincolns. The vehicle line digit is just the "first" use of that part. Even truck heads say D3VE.
The suffix doesn't mean much by itself. It lets you tell them apart from say 302 parts.
The suffix is there to tell you there have been alterations from the FIRST design of that particular part.
* A * meaning the first design the * 2 A * following means more changes to the part.
The first *A* could become a *B* if it had only received one design change to it.
