Tach Drive
Take care Brian.
I don't believe Ford ever did it but GM used a tach drive on the back of the generator for all of the early years (up unitl 62) of the vette. My 60 has the tach drive on the back side of the generator. The generator was also used for power steering drive in the early days on the Chevrolet product. Same generator as the vette except the power steering pump bolted on where the tach gear case bolted on. System works well. The generator and the tach drive system is available from vette supply houses (reproduction castings). The only problem will be finding the right ratio of belt pulleys to drive the tach so you readings are accurate. I thought about it for my 61F100SW after seeing the Ford tachs on Ebay. BUT, settled on an electric tach in the dash. Originality is not my goal on the PU which is a daily driver. I am switching to a alternatior anyway. Too many short around town trips with the PU kills my battery. In additon, my old eyes like brighter headlights even when going slow!!! LOL Hope this helps.

I have a GM one wire on my 56 Ford sedan and 72 Chev PU arm rests on it also (perfect fit) . I am putting a 10SI GM alternator on the 64F100. I tell my Ford friends I am just giving the GM parts a chance at a better life!! LOL
My wife and I have 2 Vettes (60 & 77) but neither of them have any FoMoCo parts on them. Wonder what that means?????????
I am a Ford guy and 30 years ago wanted to have a 57 Tbird. Bought a 64 Bird, worked on it and sold it at a profit a few years later. Didn't have the money to buy the 57 Bird yet so bought the 60 Vette to restore and make enough profit to buy the 57 Bird. Fell in love with the Vette (we have had it 25 years) and never got the 57 Bird. Wife liked my vette but wanted her own so we bought the 77 some 20 years ago. Both vettes are restored original. I like to tell my bowtie friends when they kid me about a Ford guy with 2 vettes that GM building Vettes was mistake.
You are right, this is a great site. Good luck with your project!!
