2007 F150 Towing

I have a Super Crew ( full 4 doors) 4X4 with 5.4l. I have recently purchased a 26' travel trailer, 8500#'s. Is my truck going to be able to tow this thing? Trailer brakes a must?

their are plenty of posts about guys towing that kind of weight...i would say trailer brakes are a must and a good controller but you'll be impressed how well your truck will do... i know i am every time i hook a lot of weight to it...

i recently went 3 hrs north into and over the central pa mountains with some grades of 10 to 15% to take 2 cord of red oak fire wood on my trailer to my place and every time i make that trip I'm impressed how well this truck does...

2 cord of wood weighs aprox 7,000 lbs maybe more and my trailer weighs 1,000 so I'd say it's around 8,000 that i pull up there and i still pull the hills at 55 mph to 60 on some that aren't quite as steep...

you have a very capable truck...

Truck will tow it fine. I defiinately would get a brake controller. Prodigy seems to get the best reviews, and I swear by mine.

With that weight, you won't win races (not that you should be anyway) up any mountain passes. Still will pull no problems.

You might wanna check out your owners manual. It's easy for us to say, "Oh yeah, go ahead!" You'll be buying the tranny. I have a F-150HD w/5.4L and 4.10s and it's rated for 9500#. I wouldn't tow anything that heavy with gears any taller than 4.10 unless I had a tranny built to take some heat (which I do, but you may not). You can push the factory recommendations by 10 percent easy, above that, YNK. IMO.

The tranny won't be the issue they all use the same 4R75E including the HD model. But staying within the GCWR is the issue. I have the same truck as him and with a full tank and 3 guys it scaled at 6,800 lbs. He has a 15,000 lb GCWR so that leaves him 8200 lbs.Not to mention if the tralier tongue is 15% it will be 1,230 lbs on the truck which then exceeds the GVWR and hitch rating.

I tow a 26 foot, 6,500 lb.(actual) 7,700lb. GVWR travel trailer with my 06 F150 XLT SuperCrew 4X4 just fine. Trailer brake controller is a must. The Tekonsha Prodigy is the one to have. Once you set it up for your trailer you can't tell it is back there while braking. It really is that good.

He didn't say which truck he had. You obviously know him. For all I knew, he was going to try to pull at 15,000# with 3.55 gears. That's when you would turn the trans pan into a French fryer!

I have a 2006 fx4 with a 5.4L, the 7,200 towing package, and 3.73 gears, I read in the brochure that it will tow up to 9,200 lbs. Is that true?

What cab style, wheel base, and bed length do you have? 18 inch wheels will derate your tow rating by 500 pounds.

That is the 7200 Gross Vehicle Weight package...has NOTHING TO DO WITH TOWING......

If yours has the 3.73 rear end, it should be rated at 9200 BUT since the FX4 comes with 18" wheels instead of the base 17", that is reduced by 500 lbs, as per Ford....

So, 8700 lbs

I think the law makes a brake controller (trailer over 3000lbs must have brakes) a must. Although a boat may have brakes, but not electric. Anyway.

Get a weight distributing hitch (stock hitch will require it) and a sway control. Just a little insurance for those windy days and for when the big trucks pass.
