I got my rwd f-100 stuck on some ice (damn wisconsin winters) so, being the retard I am I rev'd the **** out of it until I got back onto plowed road. after going for a few feet I noticed that my AOD tranny wouldn't shift outta first and the fluid smelled burnt. I don't know squat about transmissions so if anybody has some ideas about what i broke and how to fix it it would really help

If your 1971 F100 has AOD, it was swapped in. No AOD's till 1983 on F Series trucks.
I hate to tell you this, but you fried the transmission.
Figure on $1000 - $1500 at the very least for an overhaul.
AOD: HEAT is its mortal enemy.
Two things are important if you want to keep your AOD in one piece.
First: STAY OUT of overdrive in heavy stop and go traffic...the constant shifting up/down between drive and overdrive fries the transmission. It doesn't take too long for this to occur, either.
Second: Install the largest external transmission cooler you can find.

AOD's are easy to overhaul but you need a lip-seal protector set. Ford recommends not to select the overdrive mode unless you are going to be driving at sustained speeds above 45 mph.
does your tran have a modulater.i had a c4 went out or vacuum line broke it would not shift out of first but when manually put in second it shifted to second.
