Been thinking about what I want to do about mirrors.
I was think I could modify some new chevy tow mirrors to work.
I haven't had one in my hand yet so not sure. I was thinking that where they pivot is where I would dis-assemble them.
Then make a new mount for them to mount to the truck.
Well I have been thinking of what I am going to do. I figured it out. I am going to get rid of the wing glass windows. Then use them as a track when I make the regular window a full size window. Then I will weld a piece of steel to make a place to mount a tow mirror. I will make some drawings to show you what I am doing. I hope to make as much like a new truck as possible.
I saw a truck on ebay years ago that had mirrors swapped out for the newer style f350 mirrors. I think it was a lifted 73 crew cab, full custom truck. At the time I thought it looked kind of cool, wish I would have saved a picture of it.
If I remember right they were molded into the door, not the vent vindow. Vent window probably wouldnt be too difficult to do, but molding them into the door would probably be pretty tough. If you put mirrors in the vent windows it would probably look pretty funny too, theyll sit too high.
Ill do some searching and see if I can find that truck.
1973/79 F100/350: FoMoCo offered FIFTEEN different types of outside mirrors. Two were part of the Camper Special packages, were also available for other models.
Type 3: 1973/79: Western Mirror that mounts above/below vent window, has a 3rd 'steady rest' arm. These stick out well past the cab.
Type 8: Introduced in 1975: Recreation Swing Out-Gooseneck: Mirror mounts below vent window, mirror head mounted to goose necked arm.
Mirror head can be flipped over and gooseneck can be swung around, so mirror has two vision ranges.
I do think that super duty mirrors would look funky. They are way to big. That's why I am going to you chevy mirrors. The way they mount will be easier to get the lower.
