I need 370 Info

Why is it that the 370 has made it into so many med. size truck over the 429 and way over the 460? On my collage campus all the F600-F700's have 370s. Are they just torque monsters? How many ft-lbs. are they rated at? I'm assuming they can't spin very fast, or there would be more folks putting them in there hot rods. Also I'm assuming that they share the same bellhousing and flywheel as the 429's and 460's. Any help would be aprecated.

Thanks all,
George Knott

They are the same as the 429,460. And yeah they have alot of torque. Not sure about the rpm thing as all of the f600-f700 have governors on them. We have a 1986 f600 wrecker at work, lots of hours the 370 gave up not too long ago and we replaced it with a 429. They should have tons of torque as I have personally flat towed 60,000 pounds with one. Not fast as the front end of the truck kept coming off the ground. Neat thing to think about though if you were thinking about building a truck for hauling you can get a Allison trans behind that engine. Something to think about

370's are medium/heavy duty truck blocks. They have smaller ports and valves to produce more port velocity, which equals more torque. There may be other differences, such as a heavier crank flange to support the bigger clutch associated with medium/heavy duty trucks, but I'm not positive.
