Ok guys. I need some new tires for my truck. If you could tell me what tires you have and if you like or dislike them I would appreciate it. Please feel free and don't hold anything back. For some reason I'm having a really hard time deciding on which tires to get. My highway/offroad ratio is probably 85-90% highway and 10-15% off-road(mainly during fishing or elk hunting trips). Thanks fellas.
I currently have a set of Dick Cepek FC-2s LT285/75/16 D. Pics in my gallery. These tires have a deep agressive tread and do make some noise on hard road but it isn't too bad. The tread depth is 5/8" which is thicker than many a/t tires. The FC-2s are a cross between an A/T tire and an M/T. They have worked very well for me in all conditions and grip well. The big lugs really bite in deeper mud and snow. Once the current set is wore out I'll probably get another set. They are made by Cooper.
The BF A/T are great tires also. The main reason I went with the Dick Cepeks is I wanted to try something different and the Cepeks were $30 a set cheaper than the BFs.
I've always run BFG AT's on all my 4x4's, they are the only tires I will ever put on my SuperDuty. I haven't priced them in a while but they are pricey but I've never had any problems with them.
I have the michelin LTX on my truck. I highly recommend you get an "E" rated tire. These are "D" rated and the truck handles funny when I have the car trailer hooked up. The stock tires were "E" rated and it drove wonderfully.
I'm getting ready to buy too. Debating between the Nitto Terra Grapplers and Toyo open country. Both A/T. I understand that they are the same tire, both made by Toyo, that the Nitto has a softer compound and doesn't last as long. Seriously though, I have an 03 that has about 8000 miles on it. Obviously, it isn't driven a lot. However, that is about to change and it will be my daily driver. Just wondering if the Open country are worth the extra $$?
My truck doesn't drive right without a trailer with the "D" rated tires. A buddy of mine put them on his Excursion and his wanders too. we attribute this to the tires.
Toyo open country A/T's Decent tires. Not great though. They tool some getting used to. When I had 16" wheels on my SD I ran bridgestone dueler A/T Revos. Those tires were awesome. I currently have 18' wheels on my 03 SD. You can look in my gallery to see all the different tires ans different sizes.
I've got the Bridgestone Revos on my Expedition - it's an excellent A/T tire. It does well on and off road in our WY terrain. You can't go wrong with these if they are available in your size. Unfortunately, they don't make it in the 18" size I need for my '05 V10. I can't wait for the factory Continentals to wear out. I'm looking at the Goodyear Silent Armor or the Cooper Discoverer ATR.
I also had a set of Bridgestone Dueler A/T Revo's on my '05 Ex. Without a doubt THE best tire I've ever had on a truck. I did a LOT of 4x4'n in my Ex in Colorado under about every condition except deep mud (including snow and some pretty nasty rock trails) and they were awesome... worlds better than the BFG Rugged Terrain's that it came with (which were one of the WORST tires I've ever run). The Revo's ran well on highway also, both dry and wet, and at 25k miles still had over half the tread left.
Soon as my tax refund comes, I'll be putting a set of Revo's on my new '07 Expedition EL.

Thats the exact opposite of my experience with E-rated tires. Even running at 55psi my truck would get thrown by any little pothole on the road.
With my 33" D rated tires the truck doesn't get thrown around anymore and tracks far better.
I up the tire pressure when I'm loaded and take air out when empty.

Wow. I have Bridgestone duelers now. Not at all impressed. I have probably 6000 miles on these things and they are almost bald. I put these on after the Generals that came on the truck new, went bald after 2000 miles. I guess most my driving is on road but spend a lot of time off road as well. Not playing or anything but like around construction sites etc.
I put 60K miles on my bridgestones. They still had life when I replaced them with toyos. I have about 12-15K on my toyos and I can tell they wont last as long as the bridgestones.
