I also got similar advice like #1.Use a block heater in the garage and #2. Let it warm up at least 20 minutes before driving it. Of course no one is willing to reemburse me for the electric bill or the diesel fuel. Problem is when it is below 30 degrees you can let it idle forever and it will not come up to temp.

Thumbs up

Funny thing happened again tonight, the check engine light came on again!! Funny after just posting about it and its back on again! And it is plenty warm out 35F! Not to mention that the factory front mud flaps are "wiggling" off because of the plastic rivits, the drivers side door is out of alignment as it lifts when you shut the door(or drops when you open it), the coating is wearing off the steering wheel near the audio buttons, and to top it off the undercoating in the wheel wells is starting to flake off! But i still love the truck, i guess i have to for 60 g's!

Do you drive a lot of gravel? My dads steering wheel is having the same thing but I think its just dirty, have you tried cleaning it at all yet?

No, I dont really drive on alot of gravel/dirt roads.... I make every attempt not to use truck when i am going to get dirty or greasy... I think that the outer coating or paint was worn away exposing the foam material. I am going to show the dealership and see what they say.

Since purchasing mine in Oct. engine light has come on 5 times. Owners manual says it may be water in the fuel line. I drained mine 5 times and every time after the 3rd trip, the light goes off. Manual also says you should drain fuel once a month. Water in fuel warning will not necessarily come on.

They better fix it, cause that sucks, mine is all the same way but I have an 03 with 200 000 km's on it and it saw a lot of gravel, so much that the old running boards which were just the bar style were chewed right up, protected the paint of the truck pretty good though for the most part

Lights out

The light went out yesterday.....I'm pretty sure this has something to do with the block heater. The PMC gets confused when the truck is started and the engine is already warm. Read it will reset itself after 3 cycles...check manual

The theory sounds great except for the fact that mine doesn't have a block heater and the light comes on when it is very cold and the engine is still on the cold side of normal after driving 15 miles. The light will go off after a few days until the next time it is cold ( below 10 degrees).

looks like we all have a similar problems...get this, my light has been on for about a week now, i had an appoinment to get it in this afternoon, i drove it this morning and the light was still on, went home for lunch and started the truck up to take it to the dealer...guess what..the damn light went off...just my luck, it goes off 5 min before i take it in..i think it knew what was coming...anyway i took it in and told them to check it anyway, also finally going to get it reflashed...but i'm kinda believing the engine heater theory myself though, b/c today is the only day it hasn't been plugged in and the light went off...but who knows, i'll know more tomorrow when i get my truck back...

I have an appointment in the morning at 8am to check the CEL and wouldn't you know it, it went off today. The same thing happened the last time. It will show when it threw the code anyway though. The light went off the last time on the way to the dealership.

I've been reading this trend and posted on another cel forum .My cel is doing the same thing no matter if it's hot ,cold ,pluged in,driven hard, babied, I just do not get it .The dealer is jacking me around I think I's hard to tell any more if ya know what I mean . The one thing he made perfictly clear is if I plug my own obd2 scanner (snap-on brand)in it will void the warrenty they use the same one at the dealer along with a laptop based programer . That really ticks me off It's like there afraid to share the truth with me .I've got a 07 f-650 small dump with simmular problems with a cummings engine .I only have 1100 miles on my 08 f-250 ford better get it togeather . I told the tech after the 2nd time in for the cel i buy a truck every year here and would like a little info. once in awhile . not just we took care of it . REPLY : Sir let us handle the service on your trucks we are doing the best we can. I handed him a copy of this trend and walked away . Hope he has some nice reading thanks to you guys .I get more information form this forum then any dealership could ever hope to give me thanks again .

I have a grille cover. And I use the block heater on extremely cold nights. Here on the Laurel Mountain we have experienced minus 5 to 10 normal, with one night of 40.

My truck comes right up to operating temps. Problem was it was getting too hot as shown on ext. temp gauge.

If you do not have a grille cover try getting one. I also have the pre heater or whatever it is called.

So between the pre heater, plug in, grille cover, oh and the heated seats, my butt stays warm, up here in PA!

Update: I took my truck in this morning assuming my CEL was the same as the last time but it wasn't. Tech didn't tell me the code # but here's what's on my invoice. Special order part #F81Z-9278-B SWITCH 092609 He said the code had something to do with the oil temp. They didn't have the part in stock, said they'd have it next Tues. He also said there shouldn't be any concerns driving it (the light did go out on it's own yesterday).
