I have been reading many of the topics on this transmission and the various problems that some have experienced and I am beginning to think it may be my shift solenoid but I am going to go ahead and explain how mine is doing and see what yall have to say.

Purchased new in 04 F250 crew cab fx4 psd lariat
Just over 30,000 I will be changing the trans filter and fluid this weekend but the fluid looks good with no burnt smell

About a week ago my wife was complaining of a delay going into gear or a going into gear, then out, then back in when starting off. It has been below freezing, sometimes as low as 12 degrees here in Tennessee the past few weeks for the most part so I thought that maybe that was it, cold fluid having trouble flowing but later it started doing it after the trans had warmed up and had been driven for 15-20 minutes. It may downshift and up shift erratically while maintaining a constant speed on a level surface. It has also shifted itself into tow/haul mode.<o></o>

Tonight while sitting still with the truck in reverse and my foot on the brake it was surging.

So what do yall think? My warranty just ran out in July so does anyone know how much having the solenoid replaced costs? Thanks for any info yall can give me.

 

Don't guess.
Have the codes read.

There are a few items you can look at.

Ground connections. Clean them. Both ends.

Remove the electrical connections at the transmission and look for water or green fuzzies.

Apply some dielectric grease and reinstall them.
