Well, guys my story isn'nt exactly the same , but close. I picked up one of the local for sale rags one Tuesday morning. In there I saw a '70 model Dodge Challenger all original for sale. The ad said it had been sitting in his grandmothers garage for 20 years and had a little rust. But that the interior was in perfect condition. I almost snapped my flip phone in half trying to dial the number. He only wanted $2500 for it. I figured it was a misprint, but wanted to find out. It was not a misprint. He said he had almost a hundred calls on it,and it was first come first serve. Now I'm thinkin to myself..this is gonna be a cluster f##k when I get there with my trailer . He said that 10 people already said they would be there with cash in hand and trailers to haul it off. I went over the ad one more time to make sure of what he had. He assured me that it was what it was.So then , I offered to go to his workplace after inspectiing the car and pay him . I was trying to avoid an all out riot at his house to see who would wind up with the car. Well, he agreed to that and gave me directions to his house. I could not believe what I saw. It was a '70 model CHARGER in his grandmothers garage. U[pon closer inspection, the fenders had been cut out to accept big fat tires on the back. The interior had seat covers over the old,and the original seats were torn up beyond recognition. I popped the hood to look at the engine. The carb had a dirt dobber condiminium community living in it. One valve cover missing, and no brake booster. It seems some one had been using this car for parts for a long time. The back window was being kept stationary by what looked like a whole roll of that aluminum 4" wide tape you buy at Auto Zone. I called the guy to tell him that what he had was a $500 parts car for the 440 engine and the tranny. He said ..yeah I think they made a misprint on the model. I got out of there as soon as I could. But, I can just about bet that there was a fight that afternoon. And it wasn't between potential buyers. I hope that guy had good health insurance.
Unfortuantely, this happens all too frequently. It first happened to me in 1992. I guy living about an hour away advertised a Model A truck for sale. I called him and told him that I would be there the next morning. After ariving with the wiife and kids, his wife told me that he had just sold it. He could not wait a hour longer, so it was sold. Too bad, it was gorgeous! You'll find a better deal. Jag
Good question. If you do not know the seller, well, he is prolly money hungry, has a craigslist hangover and heard from 20 guys that were going to be over on Saturday. Just saying.... I think thats why we sometimes hear " cash talks BS walks, Snooze, you lose" and others. But, YUP, it sucks, the seller sucks, and the overall fact of the word of a man being worth less than a hill of beans really sucks. But if you want to drive to denver, you could drive a nice Jag 4 door back home in comfort. No title yet. Will post as paperwork progresses. Just one more hiccup Rusty.
didnt mean to hijack the other day... obviously had something on my mind. thanks for the kind words y'all.
my dad had this happen to him about 25 years ago with a '69 Boss 302. Got there first (before banks opened), shook hands and went to go get $. When he returned, car was gone and seller was apologizing citing he didn't think dad was coming back. My dad taught me your hand shake is worth as much as you are. If you're willing to compromise your word, you're willing to compromise your well-being. Not that we'd do or condone such. We're very peaceable folks. But we'd expect an assault if we violated our word. Today's are different times, though.
My 5 mo. pregnant wife was verbally assaulted in front of our public elementary school this last week by an obviously mis-informed parent. HE (not she) thought my wife shouldn't have driven in the left lane of the one-way street and exited his vehicle to berade her for it. After confirming her lack of wrong-doing, she reported the incident to the Principal. -I can't believe it. We made the concious move to small-town America to raise our kids in yesteryear's moral standards. I'm hoping we weren't naive in trusting a small town with so many churches and I trust that "gentleman" was a vast minority...
Integrity is not a car manufactured by Acura.....
Honest is not a word to be used in vanity at the end of a sentence.....
I guess just chalk this one up to the sport of the hunt?
Just curious, how much are you guys willing to pay for a Jag parts car? I just looked at my local Craigslist and the cheapest one was a 1976 Jaguar XJS for $1000 but all the others were in the $5000 and up, most in the five digit range. A quick search of uPay came up with a couple of Jag rear ends for around $500. I was just curious what you guys think a good price is for a Jag front clip to mount under the front of a '48-52 truck.

Just to add, I have yet to see anything less than $8000 for a Jag up here. Every "Joe" that owns one, never drives it in the rain or in winter. And it's usually traded in for a newer one, lol. Where I live, it's 10 trucks to every car, and the car is usually a rust-bucket for gas mileage. They just don't exist in the JY either.
From the posts I have read on this site it sounds like Jags are sitting in every junk yard or fairly easy to find sitting behind someone's garage. I just see it.
bobj49f2; I paid $350 for the one I got. I drove over 400 miles to get it on a trailer. And was glad to do it. Thats what ticked me off about that guy that sold the 86 out from under me the other day. $200 and only 30 min. away.
Wow, you can't get anything up here for $500. Prices around here are nuts. I just couldn't figure out how you guys could spend $1000+ just for a couple of parts.
There's another one down here that I pass everytime I head over to the warehouse. I've never stopped in to ask aobut it but I will if someone is interested. It hasn't moved in the year I've been going past it. Looks to be in decent shape for a donor. I suspect it does not run.
