Thanks, I really don't care if they are loud on the road, I was just curious. I have 36'' TSLs, just the regular tsls though, they got a nice hum to them on the road so I was just gonna see how the SX's compare

I run 38.5x14.5 SXs on my 79 F250 and love them. Keep a close watch on your tire pressure and park on grass if possible. In the winter when these tires sit up over night and get cold they will flatspot and ride rough until the rubber heats up. Parking on grass vs packed dirt or pavement really seem to help. Plus I think the SXs look cool with the tread that goes down the sidewall.

Another tire to look at would be the regular TSL in a 38.5x16.

groundhawgs are a pretty decent tire.

positive
last forever vs a swamper

negative
directional
not true sized 38.5 probably = 35-36" installed
not as good in the mud as a swamper

You got it.
On a truck that will not see much mud, and a LOT of pavemtent, then groundhawg over swamper.
Any other way, swamper all the way.

Tell you what you do.....try using the LTB. It's a great tire, you could try the new 47"

The more I look at intercos website the more my mind changes as to what I want next.

Previously I wanted:
38.5x15 boggers - quad talked me out of it. lugs too close

Then I wanted 39.5x18 boggers - GD those things are expensive vs 38.5 SX or boggers

Now I think I want 38.5x16 TSLs - 25/32" of tread vs 23/32" on SX.

epd,
my best suggestion is pick the tire you like the best and go with it. Anything in the swamper line except thornbirds or those chitty STS sand tires will get 10k+ miles and be a real good mud tire. Obviously boggers will wear out the fastest but best in the mud and trexus MTs will give you the most miles but be the worst in the mud. You really cant go wrong with the SXs or TSLs. Id stay away from the SSRs or Radials. They are expensive and lugs are much smaller vs other tires in the SS line

Actually the Trexus M/Ts get horrible mileage, but like you said, they suck in mud.
The SSRs don't have the big lugs(which sucks), but they do get decent mileage.

I'm still considering the 38.5x15 bogger, worst comes to worst, I'd grove the heck out of the smaller lugs(so they clean good, but still slightly pull). They are just so much cheaper than the 39.5" bogger!

I'd like a LTB if it was in a 38ish size, but I guess a TSL or SX would be close enough.....

LTBs are nasty but they jump from 35s to 40s on 16 and 17" rims and only have the 47s for 16.5" rims. That sucks for me. A buddy of mine got less than 15k miles out of them on a tacoma before they litterally started throwing lugs off. Great in mud though.

Yeah, I know what you mean.....
31x11.50
33x13.50
34x10.50
were the only sizes I knew of until the new 47x17
Until you said so, I never new of the 35s or 40s!!!!!!!! Depending on price, they might make a new tire for me down the road.

My dad has some 34s for his 04 F150 Lariat, and they are bad a*s!
A buddy of my put some 33s on his super duty...... Literally, I don't think he got more than 5K out of them.
Power brakeing at the bar didn't help...... He's still got them though, just using what's left to those outside lugs!

My cousin has some 34s on his chebby and he's getting good mileage out of them, he might get about 15K out of them!

Those bias ply LTBs and Iroks don't get more than 15K!

Tires are just so damn hard to make up your mind on! i am going through the same thing right now i plan to buy a set of tires next week! So far its come down to the tsl sx also! I have 3 0r 4 inches of body lift when i got the truck , and i am installing a 6 inch suspension lift on and i want a decent tire it will see both road and offroad driving. Not a huge amount but i want a decent tire that will work well in the mud as well as on the road. And i dont want to small of a tire with all that lift. My father runs 38 12.5 tsls on his truck and i think they are a tad bit skinny. Thats why i was looking at the 38.5 14.5 tsl sx. What width can i run without causing problems rubbing the radius arms to much? The truck came with a set of 35 14.5 thornturds! which thank god are worn out lol and they rub the radius arm a little at hard right or left wheel. Also this may sund like a dumb question but is it safe to say modify your existing radius arms maybe take some off the outside edge to keep from rubbing , and reinforce elsewhere?
Anyone ever done this?

That's exactly what I was thinking.
1 mile round trip to work, and he put a wopping total of 365 miles in a year and down to 3/4 tread.
