Do I need a bigger turbo?

I just plan on gettin new sticks and a bigger HPOP ( for now anyway) and was wondering if I would need to get a bigger turbo.

this is what I was looking at doing,
160cc singles
Big Oil
Ats housing for the surge problems

And of course a BTS tranny somehwere in there.

With the money you spend on a bigger turbo, you could get the injectors for that. You technically don't need Big Oil with those, as they require less oil than stock, however possibly more than a weak pump can keep up with. Take a look at the new Pulse coming out soon, or the stealth, as a medium choice instead of getting two stock pumps which is alot more than you need. If you were doing this on somewhat of a budget, get the ATS housing, and a 1.15 exhaust housing for the stock turbo, or a wastegated 1.0 housing and keep the EBPV, or delete that too.

Honesty, 160CC singles is too much fuel for the .84 housing on the stock turbo, since with those injectors you'll push the stock turbo to 35 psi easily. At minimum you'll need to so what Kris suggested. If you're on a budget, getting a wastegated 1.0 turbine housing, or a 1.15 to keep the backpressures down a bit with the higher boost levels will help. Another alternative is to bolt on a van turbo. You can pick up a good used one for cheap.

If you want to go in with an all new turbo, a GTP38R or a TN BB will work great.

That "Van turbo" is the one out of the stock E-series van?

Yep it is non wastegated and has a larger exhaust housing, ford did this because the vans don't have a intercooler, this helps keep egt's down. I think those are the only differences, someone who has one will chime in I bet.

Yep that's right Jason, van turbo has a 1.15 A/R turbine housing and is non-wastegated. It will support 160cc singles pretty easily. The only thing you'll need is an adapter to connect the turbo to the exhaust downpipe. Other than that, it's a direct bolt in. Beans sells the adapter.

Yes that's the site. You can get turbine housings to go on the stock turbo, or pick up the van turbo adapter if you already have a van turbo ready to go.

Kinda. Upgrade-wise, it's sort of like putting a van turbo on a 99.5 or newer. However it is a completely different turbo and it's designed for the early 99 pedistal and up-pipe mounts. It does share the same shaft that the stock turbo uses. It flows a lot of air (more than the van turbo too), but it won't handle the same power levels as an H2E. So yeah, in a way it's that in-between step from a stock turbo to an upgraded unit like the H2E and so on.

I think if you call Bean, he will do the same thing to the later turbo to fit he 99+. I think I saw someone say they were putting it on a 00, or 01, and people asked if it would fit, and he replied that Bean said it would. So maybe they have started modding the later style aswell. IIRC they put a larger compressor wheel and mod the housing?

Thanks for the help guys im goin to look into a van turbo then.

Does adding big oil give you more hp or is it just a suporting mod for the injectors, I thought somone a little awhile ago said somthing like 40 more hp from big oil on stock injectors, but could be wrong.

It is not so much of a gain in HP, however it's almost "needed" when you do injectors aside from Hybrids. Might have been the dyno (probably was), but after BO and live tuning i got actually less HP. Just wrote that off to a bad dyno!

I gained .8 seconds in the 1/4 mile at the drag strip by adding big oil. That's quite a bit more power on stock injectors.

Plus my EGT's are lower, and there's waaaaaayyyyy less smoke.

I talked to bean today, and he affirmed my above post. D66 is available for the 99.5+ and is available in the 1.0 wg, 1.0 non wg, and 1.15 housing.

from looking at this picture can this housing take the place of the ats housing seems alot cheaper and by doing this since it has the adapter i can reuse all my old pipes that are currently in my truck right? thanks in advance
