I don't have any issues with starting it warm. I realize I would have some much more costly repairs if I did. Usually it starts better after it has been running. It is when it has been sitting for awhile that it has issues. If it has been very cold out, usually it turns over very slowly then starts. I am guessing that it just has weak batteries since after using the radio for an hour the voltage dropped below 11v and it couldn't start without a quick jumpstart.
They shouldn't test out Ok if they wont start the truck under load...unless they arnt recommended for the truck, then it could be too much. If it seems like they are for the truck, then I would question who and how they are testing them. where did you get them?
maybe try a differrent location for the same company...possibly different results. It is easy to ck the ALT, hopefully you did that.....never know
The alternator is testing and providing a good charge to the batteries. The batteries are motorcraft batteries which came from the dealership. Each individual battery reads at around 1200 CCA when tested after the truck has been running. Unfortunately I have never been able to check the battery when it is dead. Is there any reason to have the batteries tested out of the truck?
If you guys are that close...you ought to meet somewhere and swap batteries to see if that's the issue.
It would take a little work but it would be the perfect 'test'.
BTW, I spent my 25 and retired. Now I'm a logistics analyst for a defense contractor...I miss the active duty lifestyle and friends but (I know you'll be shocked!) the money and benefits are nice on this side. There are always companies looking for guys like both of you.
My only saving grace are the times I have to go TDY to installations to interface with you customers.
I bet they wont do it.....the bat's have to be somewhat charged to test though..They'de just charge them before testing. A low battery or dead one isn't the same as a bad one... They should load check them and it should show bad if the darn thing won't start in the morning (having no other problems).
Sounds silly but if you don't know how they tested them and cant get a good answer...go by some battery shop and let them do it. ive had dealers and walmart tell me bats were fine then the guys at a good bat shop show me and load check it and they cant handle it
Eric, if you would like to try my bat's let me know and i'll give you my address. I live on Laurel Bay. Or we can take yours off and run them to Autozone and have them load tested.

Reason: Addition to statement.
Thanks for the offer, but it is more of a bother for you to have you unhook your batteries. I will just disconnect them and individually get them load tested. I am just trying to reason with myself whether to buy brand new batteries before a deployment :P
