Checked the old posts and posted in the drivetrain forum, but couldn't find a definate ansewer...
I noticed the crossmember on my dads f250 says M5OD 4x4. The transmission is a zf. Are these two crossmembers interchangable. I ask because I need to replace my zf crossmember, but can only find M5OD crossmembers. Thanks in advance!
NumberDummy, I'm not sure if you are refering to the actual mount or the crossmember the mount and tranny bolt to. I am refering to the brace that runs from frame rail to frame rail. The truck is a '89 and has a small block in it. I know both the zf and mazda tranny will bolt up to the small block. I was wondering if the two were the same length and used the same crossmember, or whatever it is called. Sorry for confusing everyone.
1988/ M5OD F Series & Bronco = E8TZ-6A023-D .. Rear Support (official Ford term).
This is the removable support that the tranny mounts to.
Civvies call these crossmembers, partsdummies call these by the Ford nomenclature.
Rear Support / Rear Engine Mount Support / Transmission Mount Support.
It never failed...when repair shops ordered what they thought were crossmembers, they really wanted these supports.
This makes sense why would Ford stamp a different part for different trannies when a modified support piece would do the job.
Kinda like the empty transfercase in a two wheel drive Bronco II.
In my 2wd to 4wd Ranger thread, someone said I may need a 4x auto tranny and the transfer case that goes with it. I was hoping to get just the transfercase and maybe some kind of aftermarket adapter.
So the question is... are 2wd and 4wd tranny tail shafts different?

I'll take a look....is the trans the A4LD? Or something else.
I don't know about yours, but I do know on the C6 of my dads and my old E4OD that the tailshafts were different between 2wd & 4wd, but sometimes its not that hard to swap them out.
