I've got a 2001 Screw, 5.4 liter engine, 2 wheel drive. The driver side door post recommends a tire pressure of 26 PSI in the front and 32 PSI in the rear. The tires say 35 PSI. Which should I choose? Normally I'd stick to the tire recommendation, but with Ford's history with tires I'm worried about warranty issues. I'll be putting around 1300 highway miles on next week, maybe I'll try each and see what happens.
I would not be comfortable with 26 psi in the front tires. The post on the door piller are for the most comfortable ride. Running 35 psi will give you maximum tire life.
I think that the pressure you see on the tire itself is a MAX pressure. I don't really know if that max pressure is assuming the tire is cold or hot. I usually inflate all 4 tires to 33.
Just had a chance to go over my receipts from the trip. Turns out the guy at the quickie oil change didn't touch the tires, so they were still at 27 in the front and 33 in the back. The mileage for the trip varied between 14.5 mpg and 18.4 mpg. That was driving above the speed limit, usually 69 in a 65 zone and 73 in a 70 zone. The average for my truck, after 12,071 miles, is 16.3 mpg. I must say I'm pretty pleased with that!
