hey i got a fuel leek from some where under the hood of my 97 powerstroke found one leek was coming from a vacume gauge/sensor at the front of the motor. i also tryed to tighten a large nut at the back of the fuel pump still leeking where else might i look.. is ther any other common spots that it sould be coming from?
There is a weep hole in the fuel pump. It's common to leak from there. #1)Use an air hose and blow out all the excess diesel fuel in the valley. #2) To get a good view of it, you will need to remove the intake pipe from the turbo to the heads. When doing this, make sure nothing is in the way that could get in the intake ports. #3) Locate the little hole in the fuel pump, and then you will want to start the engine. When doing this step, make sure there is nothing loose like a rag or a piece of paper that could get sucked into the intake ports. The turbo will be moving some air but with no place to go, it will likely blow some stuff around if left under the hood, where the intake ports could suck it in.
There are also 2 hoses coming off the fuel pump. There is a shield on them which might be blocking your view. The shield just lifts off the hoses, but you will need to have the turbo pipe removed to see that very easily as well.
so wit that hole in the fuel pump i am going to ave to put a new one in there. it is not a hose fitting leek or some thing that just needs to be tightened.

If it is leaking from the weep hole, yes, you will need a fuel pump. The purpose of the weep hole in the fuel pump is to allow fuel to leak out of the pump when it goes bad. Without the weep hole, when the pump goes bad, the fuel would leak into the oil. That would be a real bad thing to have happen. Should you go and change the fuel pump, there should be a link on this site to show you how to do it.
from what i got out of that artical if i aint a good mech and not fimilar with that pump i should proble have it done by a shop or some one more quailifyed i can do basic repaires i am putting my lift on my self and did my exhuast and am pretty good at figureing things out but that pump rod seems it could be a mess
I always get nervious when doing something on my truck for the first time. I had an International Truck shop change mine a while back. I was there doing a job for them and just asked if they had a mechanic that wasn't too busy to look at my truck and find the leak. The guy worked for a Ford dealer for years and I watched him as he went to work on my truck. It took him about 2 hours from the time he popped the hood to the time he closed it. As for the rodn the pump, he said if your careful it's not a problem. He had changed 100's and never a problem.
