I recently purchased a ford truck with a swapped 429/460 in it and have no idea how to identify it. I dont know what the engine came out of, but I do have the casting numbers. The block is a D9TE-AB and the heads are D3VE-A2A. The intake is a four barrel unit, but has a funky quadrajet style opening. What year is it and what did it come out of? Is this a good engine? Does if have good performance potential? How much horsepower and torque? Thanks for any help.
Sounds like a 79 truck engine. D9TE-AB casting on the block is 79 truck. The D3VE-A2A were used on pretty much all 460's from 73 and up. What year truck is it?
The truck is an 86 f250 4x4 that originally had a 300 six. the guy I bought the truck from also had another 86 F250 that he may have yanked the engine from, although I thought this engine looks straight out of the late seventies, not the mid 80's
[updated:LAST EDITED ON 07-Feb-02 AT 00:54 AM (EST)]Sounds like a 460 to me, the 429 ended production in 72 and was used in passenger cars, and intermediates. Probably a 79-83 model engine would be my guess. It is definetly a truck engine identified by the T in the casting number.
I just crawled under the hood of the truck with a flash light (its midnight) and looked for numbers on the intake but didnt see any. Where exactly are they located? Scott
