Question

Here in my country, I should change to the 203* thermostat?, or it is only for colder places?

I installed the Dieselsite 203* stat in my '97 on Oct. 01, 2007 and my temp never got over 169* and my oil temp @ 180*. Talked with Bob at Dieselsite and he was quite surprized that I was running that cool.

He asked me to get it to running temp and then check the temp with a Lazer Thermometer, it registared 165 & 168, readings taken off of the water pump and the stat housing.

He is sending me a replacement stat and requested that I return the failed one. He is including a post paid shipping label.

Ya just can't beat that for service.

Ok, I'm bit. Think I will do the thermostat. Before I order is there a way to tell which water pump I have .. duhh, or does it matter? My top hose goes over the belt then down and secured to a metal tube that goes into the water pump. From the end of the top hose the metal tube goes down another 6-7 inches, best guess, where the thermostat would be located, three bolts securing it. From the thermostat down it looks like maybe another 3 inches or so before actually in the water pump cavity.

KNOTWILD or anyone else was this your setup for the 203 stat?

I have a pump with the non bolt on inlet pipe.
1 piece casting. It uses the long stat.
Is it safe to say if it DOES have the bolt-on LOWER inlet that it uses the long stat?

Correct. Long T-Stat
The pump that is casted with the lower inlet could be long or short stat.
Most of the casted are short stat.

Jose I would say you are safe to go with the 203 stat. The cooling system on our truck is extremely efficient so even with a higher operating temp the chances of over heated aren't affect unless you have a problem/leak.

For the 96 and 97 its a pretty safe bet it will have a long stem waterpump. the 94 and 95's it more of a crap shoot.

that one will be a short stem. Aside from the the Dieselsite the 203 long stem is not availible anywhere else.

Maybe for $10 it would be worth ordering that one to to see. I don't know. Next time my WP goes out I am just going to go to the short stem WP and be able to get my 203 stat at the parts store!
