I don't "get" the hybrid hatin'. If someone made a full-size, full-power 4wd hybrid truck, it would be vastly superior to a conventional drivetrain, and I would be all over it.
I think the concept is great. Im not a scientist. But from what I hear the damage to the environment in making all the extra batteries almost outwieghs the relativly small fuel consumption savings. And Hybrid cars hardly get any better gas mileage than small diesel cars. And they are slower. side point: I think its kinda funny, kinda sick, how many celebrities fly in their private jets across the world and use ludacris amounts of fuel, then hop in their prius and drive around just to look "green."
Plust the fact that there are other alternate fuels that are superior in every way, they just don't make the right people money. Thats why I would get a "I eat Hybrids" bumper sticker.
I was just watching the news and herd somthing that nearly made me sick... Toyota is spending $23,000,000 (twenty three MILLION DOLLARS) A DAY on research for better fuel alternatives!!! That is beyond insane!!!! One of my students dads died on christmas eve from cancer... Just and idea take a frickin week off and give the $161,000,000 to reserch to save lives!!! Sorry for the brief rant it just amazes me that this country seems to be more worried about the enviriorment then man kind.
It has nothing to do with hate. But everyone I know that drives one is so self-rightheous it's pathetic! They are on a high horse from hell, so yeah, it's fun to mess with em.
The battery thing is a half truth, it is embellished a bit, but there is also a great deal of truth to it. Making the batteries is very harmful.
What simply ENRAGES me are things like the Ford SUV Hybrid commercial, I just love it when they use your kids to try and make you feel guilty. I would never buy one because of that commercial. I don't smoke, but I sure feel sorry for smokers because of the onslaught of attacks on them on TV and everyone of them using their kids!! It's sick!
rsyauto, I have a guy that makes stickers for my business and it's very cheap. Look for a sign maker/sticker guy near you, it would be very reasonable even for one or two. If not, let me know, I will talk to my sticker guy and have him run a few, cause I'd like one now too!!

Nicely put. It's all just a farce...an attempt to fit in with main stream idealism, when really the technology isn't helping the environment at all. As far as I understand it, you don't even need to drive a small diesel to beat the mileage that a hybrid gets. I think there are standard gasoline cars that can outdo a Prius on mileage.

Those hybrids are good in town, but if you do any interstate driving, the gasoline motor has to run to maintain highway speeds. Any savings comes when you're tooling around town or in traffic. I agree with the diesel thing though -- why they aren't making more small diesels that will get 45-50mpg is just beyond me. It's cleaner than gasoline, and sure as hell packs more power! I'm actually in Albuquerque this week and I've been seeing diesel coming down a bit. At the Love's on 40 here in town, Diesel is 3.09/g (cash price). I've been paying 3.29 in Dallas -- since I need fuel shortly, I'm hoping for a nice surprise.
Just seems to me that no-one hoonestly wants to address the problem. To me, the hybrid thing is just a media driven farse that people with guilty consience are more than willing to fall for. Why were VW's able to put out little diesel rabbits how many decades ago that were so efficient and now, nothing? Even gas cars used to get such better gas mileage many years ago, now because of the EPA, they can't get good gas mileage, and this somehow helps the enviroment? Same with them changing diesel formulas, then mileage goes down, so more is used, where the hell did that get us? Everything is a bandaide on top of a bandaide to appease a bunch of BS tree huggers that live to work against their own cause!
The plane thing was such a good point, these people (Al Gore, are you listening) have no problems flying 50 miles to get from one tree hugger convention to another, as long as they drive from the airport in a hybrid. This same guy does nothing to conserve energy in his very own home.
