The demise of the "semi" Hemi has EVERYTHING to do with new CAFE standards.
Dodge Nitro/Jeep Compass/Jeep Patriot
Those are the ones I was thinking of. My former boss recently purchased a Nitro, and boy is it ugly as sin. Personally that is and doesn't look to have any real utility, other than any other Crossover I guess.
And with fines like this, I could understand why the CAFE standards have started to remove the HEMI from vehicles.
It died and came back twice before, dont write it off completely, as long as we have gasoline. The US economy looks a little like 1958 and the oil situation like 1979. When were the previous Hemi's canceled? What makes it a "Hemi" anyway? There are lots of pent-roof chambered OHC engines in production out there, and some are V-8's. If it has to be a pushrod V-8 to earn the name, then maybe its dead.

And to tell you the truth, the only Dodge vehicle I see around town, other than a Caravan, have a HEMI.
There's a possibility of a Renault/Nissan co-operative with Chrysler.
A good deal for Chrysler, because that will enable them to get a decent midsized (midsized....LOL...it was called compact once!) platform to build their cars on.
The present platform is old...old...old and includes the Sebring and Dodge Avenger and not much else.
It will also enable Chrysler to procure some modern OHC 4, V6 & V8 engines...sadly lacking in Chrysler's present scheme of things.
The 2.7 V6 is a first class terd. The reliability factor is just awful...the engine is so gutless, it can't pull a sick trollop off a bedpan.
The 3.5 isn't too bad, but it's another old..old..old design, with limited future potential.
btw: FIRST Chrysler Hemi = 1951 / 331 cid.
1951 Chrysler New Yorker ...the first American car to offer chrome valve covers on an OHV V8 engine.
CHRYSLER FIRE POWER was reversed stamped into the covers.

New Sebrings are everywhere, except on the highways.
1000's are on storage lots in Detroit, and every dealers back lot in North America. The car hasn't sold worth a hoot.
New Dodge Avenger has been panned in every review I've read.
El cheapo mixed hard plastic interior bits, cramped interior, horrible build quality, blindspots everywhere.
Chrysler should offer a no charge periscope on every one of them.
Maybe the Dodge Dealer here is seeing the light because the only cars I've seen on the lots here have been a few 300's, Chargers, and Avengers. The majority of vehicles on the lots are Rams and mini-vans.

Go figure.
The Mini-Vans are brand new to the market, and every Dodge dealer on the planet has herds of Rams, because Dodge over produced them in 2005 and 2006.
By late 2007, most of the previous models were sold, but now the dealers had large inventories of 2007's. The ads Chrysler has been running for over a year offer up to 15 grand off list to move 'em out....they've also included a free hemi and now the Lifetime Warranty...but, nothing is really working.
Chrysler has shut down the Rams assembly lines several times in recent months. The be-leagured dealers aren't ordering many 2008's...because of all the leftover 2007's they're stuck with.

Looking in the paper this weekend the dealer here has advertised an 07 Ram fully loaded with all the bells and whistles for 38 grand. I wonder "how low they will go" ( dealer )
