Thanks. Since I ordered the bybass and it is cold outside I called a dealer to find out what the installation cost would be. I got silence on the phone, apparently the install time is not in their standard book.

There's a rumor that these fail a lot. I don't think it's true. I do think some hot rodders change them thinknin they have failed, but as I explained above there is almost nothing to go wrong. That's why the dealers don't stock them, they rarely need one. If it bypasses it almost always is a cooler problem.

I'm going to have the coolers checked. But was also trying to figure out what a dealer would charge to replace the bypass (I already paid for the part).

What I really find interesting is that I'm worried about the temps hitting 180 - 190, and want to get it fixed asap. I don't want to risk it going higher and causing damage. If I didn't install my own gauge I would think everything is OK.

Does this mean anything.

The temperature keeps climbing when idling. So I come home and the temp says 180, I let the truck idle for a few minutes to cool the engine and the tranny temp rises.

Have you figured out what the problem is yet? I'm pretty sure I'm experiencing the same behavior. Just noticed this last weekend.

Thanks,
Rob

I figured I had the bypass valve, so I installed it. Not bad at all, took me about 45 minutes and I loss about 1 quart of fluid. It did solve my problem.
