Knocking in 4wheel drive

I have a heavy knocking after I switch into 4wd. It happens in locked and auto lock positions on wheels. Its frequency is that of the drive shaft and not the wheels. what is the easiest way to check the U joints. If that's not it, what else could it be. 2000 F350 PSD 7.3L CrewCab Longbed.

Get under the truck and grab the end and push up and pull down on it. Rotate the shaft do you test the joint both ways. If you feel any movement, replace the u-joint. Check both the front and the back and do the same at the slip yoke joint where the rubber boot is. If those are okay, move on to the checking the transfer case.

The hard part pointing you in the right direction is not knowing what you are hearing and feeling while driving.

Post back after you check your front drive shaft so we'll know if that was it or where to point you next.
