exactly, I dont think this cam will be crazy, but i think if i port the heads and add the valve springs later I will be good
Better start saving up now. "Real" porting and cylinder head work will cost a small fortune. To really get it right takes time and most importantly- talent. Expect to pay well and search for a guy that knows what he is doing. The gains can be HUGE though.
Porting done wrong will only ruin a perfectly good set of heads. If you are only looking for some port matching and bowl cleanup, read as much as you can and you can try doing it yourself on a junk head first.
The truck finally got finished today after almost 3 weeks. I can’t believe how much bullcrap i went through just because I tried to put headers on this thing. Its cost me almost a total rebuild. Ahh, so the $3,000 price tag definitely put a sour taste on the performance gains I got from the new cam and headers, but I will try and remain positive. There’s definitely a major change in the way the vehicle operates. The headers and cam combo are lethal, I can feel it pick up from the line, and it just keep going and going all the way through the gears pass 100mph easily. Anyways I couldn’t get any videos up because it started snowing, so probably by Friday. I am very impressed, but I think I need a chip, because around 70mph after its 3d or 4th shift, there’s a pretty dramatic jolt from the engine cutting out during the shift, and then another one around the 80-85mph shift. I think this caused due to the computer not realizing that the engine no longer matches the stock shift point of the transmission, so I think when it goes to change over, it gets startled from how high the engine RPM's are when it use to change. But its not unavoidable, I won’t always be mashing the pedal so in the mean time I think it will be fine, but definitely something I want to address in the future.

You can disconnect the negative battery cable for about 20 minutes with the headlights on to drain any excess voltage in the computer. Hook the battery cable back up. This will reset the computer and force it to relearn.
I'd definatly get some custom tuning in the near future to make shure your not too lean now that you have a cam, headers and open exhaust.
If I were you I would look into some auto mechanics training at maybe a community colledge or something. That job could have been done in a weekend for very little money if you did it yourself.
Well it deff would have been nice to known how to do stuff like this on my own, but i will just start learning basic stuff first like brakes, tie rods, ect..I mean I dunno about a weekend, waiting for the heads to gets planed alone takes a day or two, but I mean, its **** like this that makes engine performance such a crappy thing to get into, yeah sure I earned some HP, but for that sort of price, I wouldnt do it again. But I just need to cool my jets with this truck for quite some time, with the money I have dumped into this over the past 2 years, I easily could of had a brand new F350 all paid off, its that bad, but i mean I dont think theres any other 1995 F350 out there like this, so I am proud of that, but its sort of sad the money I lost over the years
Yeah man thats what you do either keep on fixing older trucks and dump so much money into it that you could have a had a new truck but thats not the same right that F350 you can call your own unique truck!!!with all the mods you have done to it and it is sweet man.... i guess thats why people call some vehicles the money pit

Thats a good start. Before you know it you will have that stuff down pat and will be looking for more challenging stuff to work on. Next thing you know you can be making decent side money doing the work for other friends, neighbors etc.
Plus its fun getting grease under your fingernails

Good point guys. It is cool knowing this truck is completely custom. But I think I will pick up some tech books and start studying up on some mechanics, because I do find that stuff fun, I just need to start building up a garage set of tools, and then I can do simple stuff and like you said get some extra $$ on the side for doing stuff for people. Thanks guys, videos are tomorrow if you guys want to check back in.

Hey dfk I am about to go unhook the negative cable, after the battery is drained, should i trickle charge it back to full strength or can i jump it? The truck is now acting up, it wont shift at all and the engine is taching out, sounds like the computer is finally starting to reconize all the changes.

No you don't want to drain the battery.
Don't do this with the truck running.
Disconnecting the negative terminal on the battery. The headlights won't come on when the battery is disconnected. By turning on the headlight switch for a few seconds it will drain any possible residual voltage in the system.
When you hook the battery back up the computer will be reset.
I do this after changing fuel filters, cleaning the MAF and when I installed my headers. The computer will eventually learn the changes without doing this but it just saves some time.
Oh I got you, well coincidentally I did exactly what you just said, so thank fully I didn’t drain it. After about 20 minutes I hooked it all back up, and the truck still wouldn’t shift, and except this time the truck is having very hard time starting. I had to restart a couple times before it would stay running. And when it was running, if I would go to rev her up, it would bog down really low, as if it was about to choke, then it would rev up, so I have no idea what’s going on. So I hobbled it back to the shop where they did all the work, hopefully they can read a code or two. I hope I don’t have to get a chip for it already I have no money to do that right now.
