I know, it has been a nightmare. I hate seeing my truck in shops for periods of time like this, to much room for error for someone to scratch it lol. But the heads all back together, and I called Doug Thorley yesterday and he is sending me headers for my specific application this time for no extra charge. I think the price diffference was some $250 between the two, so I am pretty excited about that. Should get here Monday and then the guys can slap them in and I can make some videos for you guys. I also think now that these headers will fit directly, the shop doesnt need to make brackets for the motor mounts anymore, which will take $300 off the job. So things are slightly looking better, but i wont be happy until I am in my truck roaring out of the shop. Thanks for barring with my vent sessions guys.

Yeah these ones should fit right up. But back to head situation again, turns out they do need to pull the head in order to fix it, so we are back to square one again in terms of a rebuild with the gaskets ect.. There also going to replace the water pump, and put a camshaft in, valve springs, and a double roller timing chain, so why not get some extra HP out of her while shes all torn apart. I posted a thread in the Big Block Forum, but the guys over there are really lack luster to help out, any of you guys know anything about cams and stuff? It be very helpful if you checked it out over in that forum. Thanks guys.

If your gonna install a cam you should do lifters too. Best thing you can do is shop around for the entire kit.

This is purely my opinion but....

Dont waste your time on a cam thats rated from idle. Get a cam that has a powerband that starts at at least 1500 RPM. You already have plenty of torque and NO ONE pulls a load at idle. A cam that starts out that low will always run out of breath too soon also. Get something that will put those headers to use.

Man that looks awesome! And I be saving money, the other parts from summit were 400 all together. I mean all that will fit right up to code? The guy said to make sure the cam was able to be read by the computer. Will this cam be okay or do I need some sort of flash to the system?

That cam should not give you any vacuum problems, and is tame enough that it should work fine.

If you want to be absolutely sure, call Summit or Jegs and ask them about one of their cams that have the same lift/duration. If they say it will work, then you are good to go.

Thats a good idea putting in a lumpier cam since your in there anyway. The cam and headers will work together nicely. You have to put in a new set of lifters with a new cam. Going with a kit is a good idea because you know everything will work together. Your truck also should sound better with the cam swap.

Cams for your truck are cheap. For my 6.8l you have to get the cams custom ground and they cost around $750 a piece and I'd need two of them, so cams arn't in my trucks future.

ahh that sucks. Yeah I think now or never with the cam, because I wanted to replace the chain and stuff and it makes sense to do the cam while the chains off ect, so what the hell why not make this a monster. I guess the cam he found for me he said i didnt need to replace the stock valve springs, does that sound odd?

As long as the springs dont bind they will be fine. I doubt there is enough lift there to bind stock springs.
