inertia switch

can any body tell me where this is located and what it looks like on a 1996 ford explorer 4.0

how do you check it to see if the switch is good and is there any way to reset it if the button is pushed down

what kind of reading am i looking for i have never used a voltmeter

Any reading at all, you care just checking for continuity here. If the switch is bad or tripped, it will either read infinite resistance or very high resistance.
